Top Delhi and Chennai CBSE Schools for IIT JEE Main Preparations


This list takes a look at the top CBSE schools in New Delhi and Chennai known for their excellent academic performance in board exams and successful entrance into IIT and other premier engineering, management and medical institutions in the country.

It is well known that CBSE schools send the most number of students to IIT. In the latest (2016) list of the top hundred IIT scorers, it has been seen that fifty candidates came from CBSE schools. The proportion of CBSE's contribution to the premier engineering institutes has remained more or less consistent over the years. In 2013, eighty percent of intakes into IIT came from CBSE schools.

New Delhi and Chennai have some of the best CBSE schools in the country. Here is a list of some of them, known for their high standard of education and preparedness for competitive examinations.

Delhi Public School, R K Puram


TheDelhi Public School, R.K. Puram is a co-ed residential plus day school with high average CBSE class XII performance each year. The school has been producing toppers consistently. The board results of the 2015-26 batch of +2 students was encouraging. The toppers scored 98.2%, 97.8% and 97% in science, humanities and commerce streams respectively. There were two toppers in science and commerce streams. Students in the special category did exceptionally well, as well. The toppers in science and humanities scored 94.6%.

Hundreds of students from the school are enrolled in the prestigious IITs, NITs and BITS Pilani and the school sees high achievers in talent shows and competitive exams like the NTSE, JSTSE and Olympiads each year. Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Chennai


The Maharishi Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School is a highly regarded school in Chetpet, with consistently high achievements in academics every year and hundred percent results. Students regularly win awards for scientific aptitude, at competitions like the Srinivasa Ramanujan Talent Test, Olympiads etc. The school also strongly encourages preparations for competitive examinations such as the JEE Main and NEET exams.

MVM – Chetpet is an ISO 9001 : 2008 Certified Institution. Here is how students fared in the 2015-16 AISSCE Board Examination conducted by CBSE. A total of 411 students appeared for the boards, and the entire batch qualified with First Class. Over 66% scored more than 90% and there were 390 distinctions in all. While 30 students scored centum in Computer Science, there were 4 centum secured in Mathematics and 2 in Chemistry. 7 students scored 99% in Biology and 6 in Physics. There were 9 toppers in English with an individual score of 99%.

DAV Boys Senior Secondary School, Chennai


DAV Boys Senior Secondary School in Gopalapuram is the main branch of the DAV group of schools. Students achieve exceptional results in the class X and class XII Board examinations. Another feather in its cap is the distinction of its students securing the top All India ranks at the IIT-JEE exams. Students of DAV Gopalapuram have ranked 1st, 2nd, 4th and 54th in the JEE.A large numbers of the school's students have gained entrance into other prestigious engineering institutes such as BITS and the NITs. Others have received full scholarsship to Singapore's NUS, and results in the All India PMT (medical) exams have also been exceptional.

Each year a number of students of DAV Gopalapuram, from the Commerce faculty, secure admission into the prestigious London School of Economics (London and Dubai campus) and into the National University of Singapore.

The school has begun an integrated IIT coaching program for class XI students. This special course covers the regular CBSE curriculum and readies students to crack the IITJEE. Students can opt for Hindi as a second language from class 1 onwards. As per CBSE guidelines, studying of a third language is cumpolsory in 6th, 7th and 8th.

Sanskriti School, New Delhi


Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri is a co-ed non-profit school with high academic achievements in the class X and class XII Board exams. The Hindustan Times has reported the school's number one ranking in 2009. In 2010, the school was ranked number two in academics, and in 2015, it was ranked as New Delhi's sixth best school, and the second best in Central Delhi.

The quality of education provided at the school can be gauged by the excellent performance of the students in the board exams. Here is how the students of Sanskriti fared in the 2015-16 boards. The science stream topper secured 98.8% while the toppers in humanities and commerce scored 97.6% and 95.6% respectively. There were 249 First Divisions from a total of 250 students. One student scored a centum in mathematics, 3 in Chemistry, 4 in Psychology, 5 in Sociology, 1 each in Physics, Bio-technology and Fine Arts. 99 was the highest score in Economic, computer science, biology, home science and political science.

The Mothers International School, New Delhi


The Mothers' International School has topped the list of Delhi's best schools in Outlook's C-Fore Best School Survey three times. It was also ranked by Education World as one of the top five day schools in India. The school is a part of the Sri Aurobindo Education Society.
