Best CBSE Schools in Guwahati


Guwahati has several CBSE schools that offer national and international curriculum to students who want to receive holistic education, with equal participation in academics and extracurricular activities.

Guwahati is home to some of the best CBSE schools in the North East. Some of these schools are historic and have kept their reputation in the modern education network. Others are new and modern, with international exposure and the holistic education that CBSE strongly encourages in its affiliated schools.

NPS International School


The coed and air-conditioned day-cum-boarding NPS International School has won in the 'Best of All' category in the Government of India's Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award. The school has excellent academic performance and a strong global outlook (through the CBSE-i board), with kids having been sent to NASA for ATX training and other educational excursions to locations around the world. The digital campus is complemented by extracurricular facilities for art and craft, drama, athletics, public speaking, meditation, table tennis, robotics, badminton, yoga, football, marathon, swimming, media literacy, science exhibitions, ICT competitions and more.

The NPSIS is also the recipient of the International School Award, presented by the British Council, for 2014-2017. The World Education Foundation, UK gave the school a 5 Star Gold Rating. Faculty Higher Secondary School


The Faculty school has ranked number 1 in Assam in recent years, and 77 in schools nationwide. Faculty Higher Secondary was the first school in the state to receive CBSE affiliation. The school is well-equipped with facilities to encourage students in lab work; projects, group discussions, mini research, field study, power point presentations etc. Activities include sports like football, basketball, cricket, volleyball and karate with extra coaching after school. Other activities like MENSA (an intellectual discussion group), eco-restoration activities such as a plantation project in the Sila Pahar Forest area, educational tours, workshops, excursions, communication development programs etc. make the school an excellent all-round modern institution.

The FHSS also has hostel facility that can house 45 boys and 25 girls. The hostel rooms have air-conditioning and Wi-Fi internet facilities, in addition to cable television. Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School


The Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School is a co-ed CBSE school which received affiliation in 2004. The school is one of the best in the North East region, with a good balance between academic performance and co-curricular activities. Activities offered include yoga, performing arts, sports, visual arts, SPICMACAY and workshops; while smart classes that enhance learning in class. The school has organized events like art workshops, Sanskrit Diwas, educational trips to France, the school fest Melange and other events throughout the calendar year.

The Sarala Birla School has introduced two new concepts into the education system that assure better involvement of students in the learning process. The first is Mindspark, which involves the use of computers to enable learning. It is a unique self-learning programme that assists pupils to develop their skills in subjects such as Mathematics and language. The second innovative programme is called Educomp, which is a technology based teaching module that empowers teachers to bring the perfect lessons to its students.

Don Bosco School


Don Bosco School is a co-ed school with smart classes, primarily for Catholic children but non-Catholics are also admitted. Besides maintaining a high standard in academics, kids also participate in sports (with coaching after classes) like football, basketball, tae kwon do, chess, table tennis etc. With a strong focus on community service, children help under-privileged kids of the evening school receive the education they can't afford elsewhere. The school also has an interest in the NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling). Kids also participate in activities like music (with Royal College and Trinity College affiliations), Bosco Choir, art and craft, educational visits, various clubs like theater club, Interact Club, scouts and guides, Philately Club, Junior Red Cross etc. The school also has exchanges with students in the UK through the UKIERI program.

It is a day school, with transport facility available for pick up and drop of students. Don Bosco has classes from Kindergarten to class 12, with science, commerce and humanities streams offered in the higher secondary level. The school is also affiliated with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Guwahati Sports Authority (GSA), enabling its students to receive sports training under highly skilled coaches and the chance to practice in well-appointed sports facilities. As part of the affiliations the school also gets to compete in various sports meets at the state and national level.

Royal Global School


The day-cum-boarding Royal Global School offers students a modern, state-of-the-art campus with sprawling green grounds and facilities like robotics lab, language lab, 3D lab, smart classes, math lab, EVS lab, a professional music studio, cafeteria and more. Students go beyond academics with participation in sports like horse riding, tennis, skating, basketball, billiards, table tennis, swimming, taek won do etc. Cultural activities like dance, theater and music, art and craft, read program and various school clubs are encouraged with excellent coaching and modern facilities to support them.

The boarding facility at the Royal Global is comfortable. The food in the mess is wholesome, with a different menu each day. The variety of food served caters to different taste buds. Health drinks such as Boost, Horlicks, Bournvita etc are also served on a daily basis. Students are given fresh fruits during the short break and dessert is served at lunch and dinner. A tuck shop is also made available on the campus where students can buy snacks.

Guwahati has many other schools that deserve a mention. These include the various branches of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, namely - Khanapara, Hindustani Kendriya Vidyalaya, the Noonmati branch and the Kendriya Vidyalaya at IOC Guwahati. The Godwins School and the Delhi Public Schools at Khanapara and the Ahomgaon campuses are among the other schools affiliated with the CBSE.
