Transaction not permitted due to signature mismatch Sometimes it happens with some of us that our cheques get returned due to the problem that the signatures don't match with what is recorded with the banks. It happened once with me too. It was my first bank account that was opened by me when I was too young. Over the years my signature had changed and I was no more able to do any transaction from that particular savings account. On advice of the bank officials, I applied for a change in signature for my savings account. It was a very simple process, without any hassles. I had to simply submit an application for the same. I filled a form where my current signature was recorded. Yes, I did had to submit identity and address proof as well. From that day on, I didn't have to face any problems with my cheques getting dishonored due to signature not matching.
Here in this article, I am providing a sample letter on the same lines that I myself wrote for recording my change of signature. In case you are ever facing issues with your signature not matching, it is advisable that you record your change in signature with your bank at the earliest. It may otherwise lead you to difficulties at times.

Sub: Request for recording change of signature
I am having a savings account in your esteemed bank for the last 22 years. All these years I have been transacting with my clients and customers through the medium of cheques. Of late, I have noticed that quite a number of cheques of mine are getting returned due to mismatch in my signature. I understand that over the years my signature might have changed a lot and that may be the cause for my cheques getting dishonored.
In order to resolve this issue, I would thus request you to please record my changed signature, so that I don't have to face any further issues regarding my signature not matching. I will be very much grateful to you in this regard. Along with this application, I am attaching a copy of my PAN card and voter card as ID and address proof respectively.
My bank account details are as follows:

EndnoteThere could be other reasons for changing the signature. Sometimes, some of us might be in the habit of using two or more signatures. While operating our different accounts, we may sometimes forget which signature is meant for which bank account. There is a great possibility that there could be a mismatch in signature and the transaction could fail. In such cases too, we can apply for change of signature for our bank accounts and get the same signature for every account. Since this is a sample letter, do take care to change the names, addresses and account details wherever necessary. Changing your signature will ultimately provide you with the most hassle-free banking experience. So do it at your earliest convenience.
