NISER Bhubaneswar & UM-DAE CEBS Mumbai M.Sc. Basic Sciences admissions through NEST 2017

The National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar is having a 5-year integrated program in basic sciences, namely, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. This article provides complete information about the admissions process for the course through NEST-2017 & details of this entrance exam format.

The National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar has announced the admissions notification for its M.Sc. program in basic sciences, namely, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. This is a 5-year integrated program at NISER, which is an off-campus centre of HBNI and University of Mumbai-Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS). Admissions will be given through the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST).

Scholarships

Students can avail of merit-based INPSIRE annual scholarships of Rs.60,000/- + Rs.20,000/- for summer internship sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.



Eligibility requirements

  1. You should be from a science stream, preferably with a combination of 3 subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics in classes XI and XII.

  2. You should have passed the Class 12 exam or its equivalent from any recognised Board in India in the years 2015 or 2016 or be appearing for the exam in 2017. If you are appearing for the board exam in 2017, then you must pass it by the time of admission.

  3. You should have secured at least 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in Class 12 exam to be eligible for admission to NISER and CEBS (55% in aggregate for SC, ST & PD candidates.

  4. Age criteria: You should be born on or after 1st August 1997 (for general & OBC candidates). The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC / ST / PD candidates.

Important note: You must submit all the requisite certificates supporting eligibility criteria only at the time of admission.

About NEST-2017

The syllabus for NEST 2017 is based on the NCERT/ CBSE science syllabus of Classes 11 and 12.

The question paper of NEST-2017 will be in English only. There are 5 sections, with each section having questions in the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format:
  • Section 1: General Section - 30 marks

  • Sections 2 to 5: Questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics – 50 marks each section, with negative marking for an incorrect answer for certain questions. Some questions may have one or more correct answers, in which case you will get marks for marking all correct answers and no wrong answer.




Exam fee

  • For General and OBC category male candidates: Rs.700/-

  • For SC and ST male candidates: Rs.350/-

  • For female candidates of all categories: Rs.350/-

  • For persons with physical disability: Rs.350/-

Mode of payment: You have to pay online using Net Banking or Credit Card or Debit Card.

How to apply

  1. Register with a valid email ID and apply for NEST 2017 online only at: https://www.nestexam.in/

  2. In the first part of the online application process, fill in the basic details about your personal information, provide academic details and select your choice of exam centres. Note that you must submit details of qualifying board examinations of both Class 10 and Class 12.

  3. Once you have submitted the basic details as mentioned above, you will get an application number on the next page. Note down this number as you will require it for all further communications up to the time of getting admission.

  4. In the second part of the online application process, you will need to upload JPG files of your passport size photograph & of your signature. Note that you should have the scanned images in JPEG format with sizes of maximum 100KB each and the images must be properly cropped.

  5. In the third part of the online application process, you have to make the online payment of the application fee. Note that you should right away contact Ph. 0674-2494360 if the amount has been deducted and you find that you were not re-directed to the NEST page after the online payment was
    made.

  6. Once you have reviewed your application and submitted it, a summary page will be generated and you can take a print out of it directly, keeping one copy for future reference for yourself.


Important dates

  • Online application opens: 2nd January 2017

  • Online application closes: 6th March 2017

  • Admit Card will be available for download: on or after 16th April, 2017.
  • Date of NEST 2017: 27th May 2017 (Saturday), 10a.m. to 1p.m.

  • Announcement of results on NEST website: 16th June, 2017
