ISLRTC Govt. course for Diploma in Indian Sign Language Interpretation admissions 2017

The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center (ISLRTC), New Delhi has announced admissions open to the course of Diploma in Indian Sign Language Interpretation (D.I.S.L.I.) for the academic year 2017-2018. ISLRTC is under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dept. of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India.

About the course

Number of seats: 15, with seats reserved for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates as per Central Government rules.

Duration: 1 year

General information: You need to be punctual and fulfil the attendance requirements, failing which you will not be allowed to appear for the final exam. You will be expected to participate in various sports events and cultural programs conducted by ISLRTC on the campus. A Course Co-ordinator will monitor your progress in the course and a Student Welfare Officer will manage all personal & professional issues.

Eligibility requirements

You must have passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized Board of Education with 50% marks (this is for General and OBC category candidates; for SC/ST/PH candidates it is 45%).

Note: In case 2 or more candidates secure the same percentage of marks at +2 level, then preference will be given to those with higher qualification.

Career opportunities

The D.I.S.L.I. course has a lot of scope for a good career. You can avail of job opportunities as an interpreter in Government organizations or in the private sector or work as a Master Trainer or as a Special Educator in sign language. You can take up employment in a regular school as an Interpreter for children with hearing impairment. There is also scope to be employed in local district primary education programs and in special programs which focus on education of the disabled.



Course fees

The tuition fee is Rs.5,000/- for the one year D.I.S.L.I. course. Additional fees are:
  • Library fee: Rs.500/-

  • Educational tour fee: Rs.1,000/-

  • Caution money deposit: Rs.2,500/-

How to apply

Fill up the application form in the prescribed format which will be available at the official website soon at: http://www.disabilityaffairs.gov.in/content/page/indian-sign-language-research-and-training-centre.php. Submit the application along with all the requisite document to ISLRTC at the address given below. The original documents which you submit at the time of admission will be retained by ISLRTC till course completion or confirmation of eligibility.

Last date of receipt of application: 31st January 2017.
