Alibaug is a town situated in Raigad district of Maharashtra State. It was founded it 17th century by Shivaji. It is surrounded by many cool beaches and a fort. Recently we had been on a trip to Alibaug and felt this is the best destination for everyone as it has less crowd, a clean place, well maintained beaches and many cool home stays near by.

I have shared my experience about my trip to Alibaug so that you can also plan your holiday.

Why Alibaug

I had reached Mumbai with my husband and stayed at my sister's place. As we went during the time of the New Year we wanted to enjoy our new year at some nice place with less travel time. While thinking of a plan, we decided to go to Alibaug as we had heard that there are very nice beaches and we can also play many water sports. It takes around 2-3 hours to reach Alibaug from Mumbai. We left for Alibaug by our car at around 6 in the morning and reached there by 9.30 as we took a short break in between. The beach we decided to go in Alibaug was Kashid beach as recently my cousin had been there and also the home-stay was very close to the beach. We enjoyed our drive from Mumbai to Alibaug completely and as we entered Alibaug we could see beaches everywhere and the sound of the waves was very soothing.

As we reached Kashid beach, there were very few people as we had reached early. But all the shops were open and the water sports had already started. There were many hammocks around the shops. As we were hungry, we headed to one stall to have our breakfast. There were variety of breakfast available. There was pav bhaji, misal pav, Poha, omelette all of which were very tasty. We had our breakfast and rested on a hammock and took a nice nap. After some time we headed towards the beach.

Things to do at Kashid beach

There are various water sports available at Kashid beach. There is a banana ride. You can take a banana boat ride. There is a water motorcycle which you can enjoy. Both these rides will be of 20-30 minutes. There is a parasailing. If you like to parasail, you can take a banana boat ride and reach the parasailing place. There they will give you a saftey jacket and you will parasail for 15-30 minutes. If you want a dip, while getting you down they will even dip you in water. Also there is a horse ride available at the beach. But the sand is a little dirty because of the horses. The water sports there is very pocket friendly as they are not very expensive and everyone can afford it.

Where to stay in Alibaug

There are many home stays available which are even very clean. The home stays are available between the range rs 1000- rs 3000. The home stay were we stayed was Sagar's home stay. It was very spacious and hygiene. The food was prepared before us and cleanliness was maintained. They provide both veg and non veg food. There were hammocks even in the home-stay to rest in the open area. It was also at a very walkable distance from Kashid beach which takes just around 5 minutes. Since we had been there during new year, they even organised a new year party.

I have heard about Kashid beach from some of my friends who live in Mumbai. No doubt, it is a well-maintained and well-kept beach. Although many tourist visits this small town, but the beach has not become very dirty. So far as the beach is concerned, I have been informed that the waves of kashid beach can be unusually high and so the beach is ideal for surfers. However, during monsoon season, surfing may be dangerous and sometime even fatal.

So far as Alibaug town is concerned, many film stars have built their bungalows here. They spend their weekends at Alibaug which is very near to Mumbai. But, due to the presence of film stars, the cost of essential and necessary items is very high. The hotels and restaurants located near the Kashid beach is costly.

I have long-time plan to visit this clean beach to enjoy white sand and blue sea-water. Thanks to the author for this informative article and the accompanying photo.

Alibaug beach receives a lot of footfall and can get crowded, especially during the weekends and in the holiday season. The beach, when I visited, was not very clean. The Nagaon beach is a better option, for a cleaner, less crowded environment. The drive between Kashid beach and Nagaon beach though is bad, because of the poorly maintained roads. It was a slow treacherous drive for approximately 26 kilometres. Nagaon has a number of water facilities and the charges are nominal.

There are bathing rooms on the beach in Kashid, where you can wash off the sand and salt water off yourself. However, you will need to pay INR20 for every bucket of water.
