The Wildlife Institute of India is well known among students as WII. About the course

The M.Sc. course in Wildlife Science of the Wildlife Institute of India is affiliated with the Saurashtra University, located in Rajkot, Gujarat state, India and has been accredited Grade A by NAAC. M.Sc Wildlife Science course 2017 at WII, which was started in the year 1988 is a 2 year course(4 semesters) that commences on June 29, 2017. The course includes field trips, assignments, seminars and dissertations. The course fee is very high but the institute provides scholarships(including academic fee, hostel fee and monthly stipend) to 8 Indian students based on selection merit.

  • Indian Nationals: Rs 532800
  • SAARC Nationals: $ 13,200
  • Other Nationals: $ 14,400

Number of seats

About 20 students will be given admission to the course based on the merit of which 15 will be Indian and 5 will be foreign nationals. If there are no foreign candidates selected for the course, then that seats will be given to Indian candidates as per the Government rule. The division of the seat is as follows.
  • General: 08
  • SC candidates: 02
  • ST candidates: 01
  • OBC candidates: 04

Eligibility requirements

A candidate with bachelor degree in Science, Medical Science, Engineering, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Forestry, Social Science or Pharmacy are eligible to apply for this course. The candidates must have studied Biology as one of their subject in plus 2 level. Those who are appearing for their final year exams are also eligible to apply for this course.

Age limit

There will be an age limit of 25 years as on 1 July 2017. In the case of reserved category candidates(SC/ST/OBC), there will be a relaxation of 5 years. The in-service candidates working with Forest and Wildlife Departments will be given an age limit of 35 years as on 1 July 2017.

Selection process

The entrance test will be of 2 hr duration with 100 marks questions. Among the 100 marks, about 30 marks will be on multiple choice questions on General Awareness that includes Current Affairs, Quantitative Skills, English Language and Computer knowledge while 40 marks will be multiple choice questions on Forest, Environment, Wildlife and Conservation issues . The remaining 30 marks will be for essay questions on Wildlife, Environment, Forest OR Conservation Issues.
