The Union Public Service Commission invites applications from eligible candidates for the Indian Forest Service Exam 2017. The Indian Forest Service popular among people as IFS was created in the year 1966 and is considered to be one of the 3 All India Services. The candidates who pass the IFS exam will be given jobs in forestry services of India. If you are interested to enter the career of Indian Forest Service, first you need to qualify the preliminary exam and then the main exam, which consists of an interview and a written test. Lets check the details of the exam so that you can apply for it very easily.

  • General / OBC candidates: Rs 100
  • Female/SC/ST/physically handicapped: No fees

Nationality

In order to eligible for Indian Forest Service Examination 2017, a candidate must be either an Indian citizen OR a subject of Bhutan OR a subject of Nepal OR a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with an intention to permanently settle in our country OR a person of Indian origin who migrated from Burma, Sri lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Zaire, Malawi, Ethiopia and Vietnam with an intention to permanently settling in India. Apart from an Indian citizen, the above mentioned categories shall be a person in whose a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the India Government.

Age limits

A candidate who have been born not earlier than 2 August 1985 and not later than 1 August 1996 are eligible to apply for Indian Forest Service Exams 2017. But there will be relaxation for upper age limit in the case of reserved classes like SC/ST/backward class/State of Jammu & Kashmir/ Defense Services/Ex services/ Blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons. Educational qualifications

A candidate with Bachelor's degree in one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering from any universities are eligible to apply for this exam. Mode of examination

The preliminary exam will be of 2 hour objective type questions and the main exam will consist of a written test and an interview. For the objective type question paper, there will be negative marking for wrong answers marked by the candidate. In the preliminary exam there will be 2 papers namely paper 1 and paper 2 and both consists of 200 marks with 2 hour duration. Remember that It is mandatory for the candidate to appear both papers of Civil Services Examination(Preliminary) for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she doesn't appear in both the papers of Civil Services Preliminary Examination. Both question papers will be set in English and Hindi languages. Candidates should write the papers in their own hand. The help of a scribe will not be allowed for writing this exam. But low vision candidates (minimum 40% impairment) will be allowed to write the examination with the help of a scribe. Low vision candidates will also allowed an extra time of 40 minutes for each paper( 20 minutes per hour). Each paper will be of two hours duration.

All eligible candidates will be issued an e-Admit Card that will be made available only in the UPSC website mentioned as www.upsc.gov.in. Candidates can download the e-Admit Cards from this website.

Paper 1:
  • Current events of national and international importance
  • History of India and Indian national movement
  • Indian and world Geography- physical, social, economic Geography of India and the World
  • Indian polity and Governance- constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, public policy, rights issues
  • Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives
  • General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and climate change - that do not require subject specialization
  • General Science

Paper 2:
  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation(charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)
