Union Public Service Commission popularly known as UPSC invites applications from eligible candidates for the civil service exam scheduled to be held for the year 2017. Currently UPSC is inviting application only for the preliminary exam. The preliminary exam will be held on June 18. Those who are interested to participate in this exam must submit the application via online only. Lets check the details of this exam so as to make your process more easy. Also here is some tips for you to crack civil service examination in first attempt.

Eligibility

A candidate with bachelor degree in any subject is eligible to apply for this examination. There is no mark criteria. Those who are appearing for the final year exam are also eligible to apply for the civil service examination 2017 provided they must submit their eligibility certificate along with the application of main exam. Medical students must submit their internship certificates at the time of interview.

Age limit

Those who are in the age limit 21-32 years as of 1 August 2017 are eligible to apply for the civil service exam 2017 conducted by UPSC. That means the candidate must be born between 2 August 1985 and 1 August 1996. SC/ST candidates will be given an age relaxation fo 5 years and other backward classes will be given a relaxation of 3 years. But in the case of blind, hearing impaired and orthopaedically handicapped persons, the relaxation is for 10 years.

Selection process

There will be 2 stages for the civil service examination 2017. Civil service selection process includes a preliminary exam(objective type question), main exam and an interview. The first stage is the preliminary examination while the second stage includes a main exam and interview. Those who qualify first stage will be allowed to enter the second stage and the winners of the second stage will be appointed to various services and posts.

Civil Service 2017 preliminary exam details

In the preliminary exam, there will be 2 general papers each consisting of 200 marks. The exam pattern will be objective type multiple choice questions of 2 hour each. Remember that there will be negative marking for the exam. Candidates who score good marks in paper 1 preliminary exam will be selected for the main exam.

UPSC Civil Service 2017 main exam

The main examination consists of qualifying papers and papers to be counted for merit. In the qualifying paper section, there are 2 papers like A and B of which in Paper A, the candidate need to select an Indian language from the languages included in the 8th schduele to the constitution. Paper B is English language. The merit papers include paper 1(Essay), paper 2(General Studies 1), paper 3(General Studies 2), paper 4(General Studies 3), paper 5(General Studies 4), paper 6 and paper 7 are optional subjects. Application fees

Female/SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from fees payment. The application fees is Rs 100. Candidates can remit this amount as cash in any branch of SBI OR by Net banking facility/Visa/Master credit/Debit card facilities in SBI/SBT(any SBI associate banks).
