Golden Chariot is the only luxury train in South India operated jointly by the Ministry of Railways and Karnataka State Tourism. The train operates in 2 different circuits of South India. The names of these two circuits are 'Pride of South' and 'Southern Splendor'. These two tours depart from Bengaluru (Yashwantpur) Railway Station (RS) on scheduled date / time.

Through the summer trip in 'Pride of the South', you can experience / explore the South Indian art and architecture. You can enjoy the warmth of the sunny beaches of the South and the wildlife destinations in the South.

Details of the trip / itinerary

  • The tour begins with self-report i.e check-in and registration at Hotel Taj West End at the scheduled time / date.

  • This is followed by hi-tea and subsequent present and orientation i.e briefing on Golden Chariot tour.

  • The tourist guests are then welcomed / entertained by a cultural dance.

  • From here the tourists are taken in a luxury coach to the ISKCON temple.

  • And then to Yashwantpur RS where they are received with a grand traditional welcome before boarding the train.

  • From here the train departs to Mysuru (Mysore).

  • From Mysuru, the tourists are taken in a coach ride to visit the famous Amba Vilas Mysuru Palace (the Mysore Maharaja Palace) and then to Kabini jungle lodges / resort.

  • After lunch at the resort, the tourists go on a safari and night halt at the resort.

  • Dinner is followed by a camp fire.

  • Next day early morning tourists are taken on a boat ride on Kabini river for bird watch.

  • By 9.30 a.m the tourists depart for Mysuru in the coach and back on board the Golden Chariot.

  • Lunch is served on board and then sight-seeing at Srirangapatnam which include Dariya Daulat, Tipu mausoleum and drive through the fort and Shopping at CIE.

  • Dinner is served at 5 star Palace hotel and there will be a cultural dance.

  • Around 10 p.m the tourists are back on board the luxury train and depart to Hassan.

  • The next morning, tourist go on sight seeing to Shravanabelagola.

  • Note:At this place, you have to climb the steep steps which are around 700 in number. Those who cannot / are unwilling to climb the steps can stay back on board.

  • Lunch is served on board and the luxury train departs for Belur and Halebidu at around 2.45 p.m, to visit the magnificent temple complexes of the past.

  • After sight seeing, you will be back on board where you are served dinner and depart to Hospet by 8.40 p.m.

  • The train reaches Hospet the next day early morning and breakfast is served on board.

  • After breakfast, tourists are taken to Hampi - the World Heritage site where they can see Hemakuta Hill, Virupaksha temple, Queens bath, Elephant stables, royal enclosure and Hazara Rama temple.

  • Tourist are served lunch on board and then visit Vijaya Vithala temple complex and the marvel stone chariot.

  • In the evening, you can sit on the banks of Tungabhadra river to watch the sunset.

  • You are taken back to Hospet RS and are given dinner on board the Golden Chariot.

  • The next early morning the Golden Chariot departs from Hospet to Badami. Breakfast is served on board.

  • On reaching Badami at 8.30 a.m, you are taken for sightseeing which include Pattadakal and Badami cave temples- World Heritage Sites.

  • Tourists return to Golden Chariot by 1.20 p.m for lunch and depart to Goa.

  • You can enjoy free time to relax on board and enjoy the on board facilities like spa, gym, movies etc.

  • Tourists are served dinner on board and reach Goa at midnight.

  • Breakfast is served on board, the next day morning and tourists depart for sightseeing in Goa which include famous churches of old Goa and Old Portuguese house (presently an emporium for shopping and refreshments).

  • Lunch is served at the luxury resort in Goa and then tourists enjoy a stroll in the Goa beach having hi-tea.

  • By 5.30 p.m, tourists depart from the resort and board the Golden Chariot by 6.30 p.m.

  • The luxury train departs to Bengaluru and dinner is served on board.

  • Next day morning, tourists have breakfast on board and reach Yashwantpur RS by 11.30 a.m.

  • Here the entire crew bids farewell to the tourists.

On board facilities

There are 18 coaches and each coach of the Golden Chariot is designed with a royal look. The cabins are fully equipped with modern amenities with silk bedspreads that are hand-woven by local craftsmen.

Tariffs

For Indian nationals
  1. For single occupancy - Rs.26,000/- per night and Rs.1,82,000/- per head for 7 nights.

  2. For double occupancy Rs.22,000 per head per night and Rs.1,54,000/- per head for 7 nights.

  3. For triple occupancy it is Rs.16,000/- per person per night and Rs.1,12,000/- per person for 7 nights.
For International travelers
  1. 53720 INR (Indian Rupees) for single occupancy per person per night and 376040 INR for single occupancy per person for 7 nights.

  2. For double occupancy 40120 INR per person per night and 280840 INR per person for 7 nights.

  3. And for triple occupancy 34000 INR per person per night and 238000 INR per person for 7 nights.
