Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 and was known by the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. The institute as renamed in 1944 as TISS and it became a deemed university in 1964. TISS is offers higher studies of B.A graduate programmes, M.A post-graduate programmes, M.Phil and Ph.D research programmes in addition to the short term programmes in various fields.

About the course

The programme extensively uses the Moodle online learning management system for completing the distance credits. The programme consists of 8 courses out of which 7 are theory and 1 fieldwork. The programme consists of two contact classes and each contact class is of 12 days duration. These will be in Oct / Nov and again in May / June.

The medium of instruction will be in English and the intake for the programme is 25.

Eligibility

Applicants need to have a degree in Bachelor of Library & Information Science (B.LISc) or Masters of Library & Information Science (M.LISc) from a recognized university. There is
3% seat reservation for PWD. Out of this 1% each is reserved for:
    Low Vision / Blindness
  1. Hearing impairment
  2. Locomotor Disability / Cerebral Plasy
Preference will be given to candidates with relevant work experience.

Important dates

  • Last date of submission of application form - July 10, 2017.
  • Telephonic Personal Interview - August 1, 2017.
  • Result of selected candidates will be declared on the official website - August 11, 2017.
  • Contact classes in first semester - Oct 23, 2017 to Nov 4, 2017.
  • Contact classes in second semester - May 14, 2018 to May 26, 2018.

How to apply

  • Applicants must apply online through the TISS e-application process only. Candidates must go through instructions before filling in the application form.

  • If you face any technical problem while filling in the application form, you may call # 022-25525252 from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m. You can also mail to swainks@tiss.edu.

  • Applicants from remote places where there are no internet and telecommunication facilities, can get a printed copy of the application form from TISS by sending a request letter by speed post along with application fee to:

Applicants who are applying online through the e-application form should not send the application form by post.
  • Applicants should upload/ attach relevant certificates along with the application fees.

  • An applicants must apply only for one / single programme and pay for that programme only. If an applicant is found to have filled more than one online application form, all his / her applications will be cancelled.

  • Those who are applying online have to choose either 'Cash' payment or through 'Payment Gateway' in the online application form. If you prefer to make payment through 'Cash', you need to download the payment challan and take 3 copies of the same. While depositing the cash amount in any branch of SBI, the bank will return two copies of the challan (one Student's copy and the other TISS's copy) with the banks seal, signature and journal number on it. Applicants should scan the 'TISS's copy' of the challan and upload it at the time of applying online.

  • Application fee of Rs.530/- for online payment by credit card / debit card / net banking. For cash payment through deposit in any branch of SBI using the prescribed challan, application fee is Rs.500/- + bank charges extra.

Note:
  1. For payment made through cash deposit, there will be bank charge of Rs.50/- as their processing fee for each deposit and this additional amount will not be adjusted against the application fee.
  2. Payment made through any other mode other than the mentioned modes will not be accepted and the application of the candidates who make payment through other modes like demand draft or pay order or other mode, will be rejected. The candidates will not be communicated about the same.

List of documents

Applicants applying online need to upload the following documents / submit along with your filled-in application:
    Photograph of the applicant, signature, TISS's copy of challan (if paid in cash mode)
  • Caste certificate (in case of SC/ST candidates - Annual income more than Rs.2.5 lakhs).
  • Certificate issued after 01.04.2015 by Dist Magistrate / Deputy Commissioner / Tahsildar in case of Other Backward Class (Non-creamy layer - Annual income more than Rs.1 lakh).
  • Income certificate for the financial year 2014-2015 forSC / ST applicants in case annual income is than Rs.2.5 lakhs
  • OBC (NC) applicants in case annual income is less than Rs.1 lakh.
  • PWD certificate for PWD applicants
  • KM certificate (only if applicable)
  • Armed Force certificate (if applicable).

Applicants sending the hard copies by post should get the documents attested by any school headmaster, Principal of a college or a gazetted officer. Applications received without any of the above mentioned documents will be rejected.
