Diseases related to the Heart

Heart is the most important organ of our body. In this article you will find the diseases related to heart, their reasons and characteristics. T

Introduction

Every organism needs instant supply of food, oxygen and different materials to sustain life. To ensure constant supply of nutrients and oxygen in different cells and to remove wastes from cells, a system called circulatory system or vascular system is found in every organism. Circulatory system of human being is made up of heart, lymph and blood vesicles.

Some important heart diseases

In this article I will explain some important heart diseases along with their basic causes and characteristics.
  1. Heart Block

Hear block is a disease of heart in which impulses are interrupted in the conducting system of heart at any point.
Cause: The bundle of Purkinje fibers do not function properly due to which the impulses do not reach the ventricles.
Characteristics: Ventricles do not move due to which circulatory system is blocked.

  2. Coronary thrombosis

Coronary thrombosis is a disease of coronary artery.
Cause: A clot may be formed in the lumen of coronary artery due to which heart muscles are deprived of blood.
Characteristics: Hardening and loss of elasticity of coronary artery (arteriosclerosis) causes pain in the chest (Called angina pain) and finally the patient suffering from heart attack.

  3. Rheumatic heart disease (R.H.D.)

Rheumatic heart disease is also called R.H. D.. Rheumatic heart disease is an infectious disease of heart.
Cause: Rheumatic heart disease is a disease of heart which is caused due to infection of a bacterium Streptococcus viradians. Rheumatic heart disease is common where there are inadequate conditions of hygiene, overcrowding and bad housing.
Characteristics: Acute rheumatic fever, joints pain and infection of throat are common symptoms of disease. Rheumatic fever leads to permanent damage of valves, myocardium and pericardium.

  4. Angina pectoris

Angina pectoris is a condition in which heart pain of short duration takes place which is usually located in front of chest. The term angina pectoris means chest pain.
Cause: Improper supply of blood in heart due to wall clotting or contraction of coronary artery.
Characteristics: Severe pain in shoulder and chest are main symptoms of angina pectoris.

  5. Valvular disease

Our heart is made up of four chambers. In between chambers there are some valves are present. Valvular disease denotes abnormal or improper functioning of valves present in heart.
Cause: Improper functioning of heart valves due to which blood flow takes place in opposite direction.
Characteristics: Heart activity becomes irregular, valves are cured by operation.

  6. Pericarditis

Pericarditis is a disease of heart covering. Our heart has three cover pericardium, mesocardium and endocardium.
Cause: Infection of bacteria harm the heart covering pericardium due to which more pericardial fluid is collected.
Characteristics: Swelling of heart because of the collection of more pericardial fluid. This leads to the increase in the size of heart.

  7. Myocardial infection

Myocardial infection is usually bacterial infection in hart tissues.
Cause: Insufficient blood supply due to coronary arteries due to blockage.
Characteristics: Abnormal functioning of cardiac muscles which may ultimately lead to heart attack.

So these are some important diseases which are related to heart. Some diseases are related to blood and lymph vessel s which will be discussed in the next article.
