To rank all the institutions of higher education in India, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has adopted a framework called National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). As per the NIRF framework, the rankings are listed based on the parameters such as teaching, learning, resources, graduation outcome, perception, outreach and inclusivity. Every year the MHRD releases the NIRF rankings. The NIRF rankings list for the year 2017 was released by the Human Development Resources Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Listed below are the Top 10 Universities in India as per the NIRF 2017

1. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore was started in the year 1909 and is one of the prestigious institutes to offer higher education and advanced scientific and technological research in India. All the faculty members at IISc hold a Ph.D degree and have high knowledge on science and technology. The University admits both male and female students from within the state, outside the state and also outside the country. The institute provides wide opportunities for the students to prove their talent and execute their thoughts in engineering and technology.

The University has two campuses and it offers education under 6 institutes- Indian Institute of Technology, Institute of Science, Institute of Medical Sciences, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Environment and Institute of Management studies, BHU. JNCASR is one of the multidisciplinary research institutes in India.
