Introduction :
The field of Chemical Engineering is involved with physical and chemical changes of inorganic and organic materials, including biological materials. These changes are carried out in different types of unit operations which make-up a complete chemical process. All the unit operations involve the three fundamental transport processes, viz., momentum, heat and mass transfer. To state the obvious, an understanding of these transport processes is very essential for the best design and operation practices.
The refresher course is aimed at young faculty into the profession of Chemical Engineering, to revise the fundamental concepts in the three areas of momentum transfer, heat transfer and mass transfer. In addition to refreshing the basics of transfer operations, the course will also expose the participants to the advanced areas in the respective fields. This includes CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), Heat Exchanger Networks, Sequencing of separation trains, etc. Lecture sessions will be suitably supplemented by laboratory sessions to get hands on experience.
The participants would have an enriching experience by attending the course. Not only refreshing their concepts, the exposure to the advanced topics and new areas would help in teaching these courses effectively.
