How to become a Scientist in CSIR


Council of scientific and industrial research is an Organisation working ih the field of Science and technology. It has laboratories all over India, with each lab having its own field of specialization. The procedure to be followed for a scientist job in one of these labs is discussed in detail in this article. CSIR offers scholarships also for those pursuing doctorate degrees.

Introduction

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is an organisation under Central Government. It has 38 laboratories all over India. Each laboratory works for a branch of science. These labs help the industry in developing new technologies for various products. CSIR's R&D laboratories employ about 4600 active Scientists and 8000 scientific and technical persons.

CSIR covers almost all branches of Science and Engineering. CSIR on average files 200 Indian Patents and 250 Foreign Patents every year. CSIR is giving technology for many industries in our country.

The term Scientist has been defined as scientific staff doing research and development work and they are expected to generate,develop,advance,disseminate,diffuse,manage and protect new knowledge/methods/techniques by research/design/development/extension.

Recruitment and assessment board


The recruitment for CSIR Scientists is carried out by Recruitment and Assessment Board(RAB).A full fledged board with adequate functions and powers is set up for the purpose of selecting the scientists.


How to apply

The requirement of Scientists for each CSIR lab will be advertised in the Employment news . The minimum qualification required is B.E/ B.Tech/M.Sc in the required field. Persons with higher qualification will be preferred. People who are pursuing doctorate with CSIR fellowship in CSIR laboratories can also apply for these posts. Their chances of getting selected for these is very high.

The details regarding eligibility criteria will be given in the recruitment advertisement. The candidates having required qualification can apply for the post. All the applications will be screened by a screening committee and a list of candidates will be forwarded to RAB. RAB will constitute a committee. The committee will decide on the mode of selection. They may conduct a written test based on the number of applications. Otherwise the selected candidates will be called for oral test. Based on the performance in written and oral tests, a list of selected candidates will be forwarded to the laboratory after taking approval from The Director General CSIR. The director of the lab who issued the advertisement will issue the appointment letters.

Requirements

The candidates who wanted to pursue their career with CSIR should opt for a science group in intermediate. They have to complete their post graduation or engineering graduation with minimum 55% marks. Once you join the organisation, chances of promotion to the higher levels are very good. Promotion depends on your contributions to the field of science.

Fellowships

A large number of Junior Research Fellowships(JRF) are awarded by CSIR every year. The qualification required for this is B.E./B.Tech/B.Pharma/M.Sc with at least 55% marks for general and 50% for reservation categories. They have to get qualified in National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by CSIR twice a year. After getting fellowship they can pursue their Doctorate degree under the supervision of a designated Guide in CSIR labs or universities.

CSIR contributes for industrial development in our country. Many Scientists are working in this organisation. A science post graduate or engineering graduate is eligible to apply. Selection will be on the basis of your performance in written and/or oral test. Promotion chances are also high
