Indian Institute of Crafts & Design B.Des. and M.Des. programs online admissions 2017

Indian Institute of Crafts & Design (IICD), Jaipur has issued the admission notification for its B.Des. and M.Des. Crafts & Design Degree programs for the academic session beginning this year. The institute is recognized by the Central University of Rajasthan.

About the programs

All the undergraduate programs of IICD Jaipur are of four years' duration and all the post graduate programs are of two years' duration. Programs will be taught in English medium only. 25% of seats are reserved for students who are domicile residents of Rajasthan.

Admission will be based on the result of an entrance test. Entrance exam centres are in: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Raipur.

The programs offered are:

B.Des. program

The specializations for this program will be based on your performance in the foundation year as well as your aptitude. The specializations offered are:
  1. Soft Material Design (SMD) – 25 seats

  2. Hard Material Design (HMD) – 25 seats

  3. Fired Material Design (FMD) – 25 seats

  4. Fashion Design (FD) – 25 seats

Eligibility requirements

You should have passed 10+2 exam. If you are appearing in the 10+2 exam this year, then too you can apply. However, you will only get provisional admission, subject to obtaining the eligibility latest by 31st October 2017.

M.Des. program

The specializations for the M.Des. program will be based on your performance in the foundation year as well as your aptitude. The specializations offered are:
  1. Soft Material Specialisation – 20 seats

  2. Hard Material Specialisation – 20 seats

  3. Fired Material Specialisation – 20 seats




Eligibility requirements

  1. You should have a recognized Graduate degree in any discipline. . If you are appearing in the graduate exam this year, then too you can apply. However, you will only get provisional admission, subject to obtaining the eligibility latest by 31st October 2017.

  2. You must have an aptitude towards craft, fashion or design.

  3. Students appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility requirements for foreign students

For both B.Des. and M.Des. programs, if you are a foreign National or an NRI, then you should have qualifications similar or equivalent to that required for candidates from India. You would need to obtain a valid residential permit or student visa for the program and / or any other condition required as per the Government of India's laws.

You will need to appear for the entrance exam. In case you are unable to go to India to appear for the exam at a centre there, then you must send the following by 23rd May 2017 to: admissions@iicd.ac.in:
  1. A Statement of purpose - Learn how to write a good SOP for admission to foreign universities

  2. A portfolio or work samples.

You will subsequently have to appear for a Skype interview. The date of this interview will be intimated to you by 28th May 2017.

How to apply

  1. Register online at this IICD page only after going through IICD B.Des. & M.Des. admissions guidelines 2017-2018

  2. Pay the admission processing fee (this fee is non-refundable.) The fee for Indian Candidates is Rs.1,500/- and for NRI/ Foreign National candidates the fee is Rs. 3000/-.

  3. Once your application is processed and accepted, the Admit Card will be e- mailed to you by 25th May 2017.

  4. At the centre where you are appearing for the entrance test, you need to bring the printout of the Admit card along with one original photo identification (note that a photo copy or scanned copy will not be accepted) . The name on the photo identification must match your name as entered in your online registration form. The photo identification types can be any one of these: Driver's License, Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, UID or Identity card of as the last school. Need a duplicate UID? Entrance Test format

The entrance test which will take place on 28th May 2017 will have 3 sections to it:
  1. From 9.30a.m. to 11.30a.m.: General Awareness, Creativity & Perception Test – this will gauge your abilities of observation, visual interpretation, proportion, etc.

  2. From 12noon to 1p.m.: Material, Colour & Conceptual Test – this will test how you make effective use of materials, conceptualize 3D forms, expand on an idea, etc.

    Note that for this test you need to bring along your own materials, namely pens, pencils (2B, 4B & 6B), scissor, scale, cello tape, paper cutter, Fevistick, eraser, coloor pencils/dry pastels/water colours etc.

  3. 3p.m. onwards: Personal Interview – this aims to evaluate your overall personality, check your aptitude to crafts, your IQ and communication skills. You will be asked about your co-curricular activities and personal achievements.

    For the interview you should take along a portfolio of some samples of your creative work, such as photographs, paintings, sketches, etc.

  4. Waitlist 1: 10th June 2017 to 21st June 2017
