Overview Knowledge of foreign languages has always been an added advantage to many. After globalization, the increasing importance of multinationals has caused many professionals, students and managers to learn a foreign language. After unification, Germany has emerged as one of the most powerful countries in terms of business, economy and technology. German universities are offering a large number of courses to international students. Today many IT professionals, businesspersons, and students learn German for their jobs, higher studies, fellowships, trainings, etc. in German speaking countries and in the multinationals. Thus, a working knowledge of German language might bring some new opportunities to students, teachers, business professionals and managers.
Aim of the course This crash course is designed to enable the participants:
To learn the basic sounds and elementary structures of the language. To engage in simple conversations of day-to-day interactions. To read and understand elementary general texts. To write simple sentences and short paragraphs about various situations. To write business letters and e-mails. To develop listening skills. To get acquainted with some aspects of the culture of German speaking countries.
Teaching Aids A large number of CDs, audio and videocassettes, slide; posters, etc will be used to present practical communication skills in German Language. Video-films, designed especially to get acquainted with the German people and culture, will help participants to grasp easily the language skills. Role-plays, discussion, reading and listening skills will be practised with the help of modern teaching aids. These practices help students not only in learning the language in an interesting and effective way but also give them an opportunity to know about German culture and people including their professional achievements in various fields.
Course Materials Necessary course materials will be provided during the course.
Class Timings Everyday classes of two-hour duration will be held which will include lectures and language laboratory classes. The three-week course will consist of 42 contact hours.
Class timings: July 9, 2007 - July 18, 2007 (9.00 am to 11.00 am) July 19, 2007 - July 29, 2007(5.00 pm to 7.00pm)
The first class will be held on July 9, 2007 (Monday) at 9.00 am in the Seminar Room of the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, IIT Kharagpur.
Course Fee: IIT Students, Faculty and Staff: - Rs. 2000/- (Rs. two thousand) per participant Others: - Rs. 3000/- (Rs. three thousand) per participant
Course fee may be paid in cash at Syndicate Bank, SRIC extention counter, IIT Kharagpur in favour of "CEP-STC, IIT Kharagpur", Account No. SB-598. The original deposit slip may be submitted along with the application form. Those who cannot pay the fee in cash, may pay it through Bank Draft drawn in favour of "CEP-STC, IIT Kharagpur" payable at any bank at Kharagpur. The course fee along with filled in application form should be submitted in the office of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kharagpur. Fee once paid will not be refunded.
Certificate After successful completion of the course, participants will get a certificate issued by Continuing Education Programme (CEP), IIT Kharagpur.
