Overview For the newly formed Telangana government, organizing the World Telugu Conference in Hyderabad on 15th Dec 2017 has become a big challenge as the KCR government is going to honor all the Telugu bigwigs who have contributed immensely for the sake of language since decades, cutting across the region.
The TRS Government has taken it as a prestige issue to conduct the "Prapancha Telugu Mahasabhalu", the World Telugu Conference, from from December 15th 2017 for five days with varied functions to honor and respect all those connected with the Telugu language. It may be noted here that in view of the World Tourism Congress and World Tourism forum being held this month, the World Telugu Conference has been postponed to the middle of the last month of this year.
The arrangements for the success of the conference has been entrusted to Telangana Sahitya Academy with an outlay of 5 crores and Official Language Commission which has been allotted with 5 crores as budget to make sure that the function would be held on grand success. All the eminent writers of Telugu and other languages are likely to be honored with great respect, and those who won Sahitya Academy and Jnanpith awards would also be invited and honored. The Telangana government wants to make this function an even more grand success by inviting President Ramnath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as chief guests.
The run up to the Conference has already begun in other countries where there is a considerable presence of Telugu people living there. Eminent people from Gulf, US, UK, Mauritius and Singapore are also going to grace the occasion. Those who have written world class novels, literature, sang songs on Telugu language, etc which have been prominent in festivals are going to be felicitated.
Functions to be held at all main venues of Hyderabad Elaborate seating arrangements are being made at the main venue, which is Lal Bahadur Stadium. Various cultural activities like dance by Gonds, Kolattam and Perini performance and also songs from Kalupu, Naatu and famous flower festival songs of Bathukamma are going to be organized in various other venues such as Ravindra Bharathi, Shilpa Kala Vedika, Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Nizam College, Pingali Venkatramareddy hall etc.
For those who missed the folklore of Telangana which were famous during the period of Kings are going to be showcased live in front of a large audience and Hyderabad city is going to have hectic social activities in the days to come.
It is good to read an article on Telugu Mahasabha in Hyderabad this month. As discussed in the article, elaborate arrangements are being made by the government for these meetings. The meet is to bring the Telugu language into the limelight and uplift the language to new heights. But I feel now as there are two Telugu states both of them might have combined together and they might have planned a combined program and they might have decided that alternative years the program will be conducted by one state. Then the whole world will understand that Telugus are united even though there are two states. But that cooperation is not visible in the parties concerned. Anytime the whole world should see that both the states in the same way and they should feel that there is a unity in Telugu speaking people. The people at the highest level should keep this point in mind and strive for the pride of the Telugu. Today in the newspapers I have seen the Organisers are going to Vijayawada to have a meeting with the important people and invite them to the meeting. Let us wait and see any positive sense prevails on the Organisers and make a united efforts to bring pride to the language.
Congratulations to the author for the information regarding the conference.
The third world Telugu conference was held at Mauritius in 1990. Is this the fourth one? or are have there been other meets?
A world conference or meet promotes the cultural and social growth of that language. This is important to preserve the unique traditions related to the language. In today's world where people are spread across the globe for work and education. This along with the rapid growth of cities and urbanization, tradition slowly loses its importance. Such events help to remind and expose people to traditions that they have not seen a chance to see till now. I'm glad that the responsibility was given to the Sahitya Academy and not an event management company.
I agree with Dr.Rao, these conferences sometimes become an issue related to ego or revenue forcing political groups to forget the core aim to promote language/culture and instead they come out with a different world conference or focus on political mileage (we have had world Tamil conferences and world classical Tamil conferences which just causes confusion).
But Telangana government is making sincere efforts on how to document the immense contributions of those poets, writers and prominent personalities who gave great speeches in pure Telugu and thus protected the language all these era and thus the deliberations going to be held would take note of this and the action plan would be initiated.
