1> Old people are physically less active, and therefore need less food. After the age of 60, the calorie requirement could be brought down by about a third. At this age food habits cannot obviously change drastically but the amount of food cab be reduced within the existing pattern.
2> Less weight also means less strain on the bones, less risk of falling down adn less harm if it happens.
3> Some teeth may be lost, and soft foods are necessary. The digestive system loses some of its tone and constipation is more common. Fats especially tend to be badly digested. The kidneys are usually less efficient.
4> Cereals like rice and wheat should be cooked as soft as possible. Dhals, if found gas-forming, should be cut down. Foodstuffs with less fiber should be chosen and ground up as fine as possible. Eggs should be eaten in soft form and soft fruits or fruit juices should be used. Vegetables should be soft cooked and not fried. Though there is often a craving for sweet foods, eating them should be controlled.
5> More meals per day and less food on each occasion will help the digestive system. Lunch could be the main meal followed by an afternoon rest. The night meal can be omitted entirely and substituted with hot mil and a snack.

Thanks Mala,
Your article is more informative. Usually many don't know what quality and quantity foods should be given to old people.
We will think like, they also can have whatever we are having. We never think about their digestion or other problems. Sometimes our usual food may effect to old people by increasing their BP, Sugar etc.
This article gives us guidelines on which type of foods can be given to old people, how much, at what time and other procedures.
One of famous English writers Mr. Desmond Marries has described in one of his novel, the man can eat any type of food at any quantity, if he likes the taste of that food.
He has given an example of his mother who was around 96 years old (don't know exactly), was having any type of food like grilled, fried, spicy, hot, oily etc. When she was on bed, she liked to have grape vine and tonic. Also she has advised to her son about having food.
According to Mr. Desmond, man should not have any type tensions in mind while having food. If he likes the taste of food, he can have as much as he wants. Human body will never create any digestion problems in such cases.
If man have any tension about the food like, the grilled, fried and oily food may effect his health in such case only due to mental depress human body may fail to digest the foods.
The theme of the story was one should have free mind while having food, he can have whatever he want if he likes the taste and he should work hard.
According to me food doesn't depend upon age, if his mind and body is tension free, the food will not have any effect on his body.
Regards Jyothi.

Thanks for your comments Jyothi. Its my pleasure to let me know of my errors. Thanks again. But my opinion is a bit different from yours.
let me try to explain you that energy of a person is not alike at all times. It solely depends on his age. A person at the age of 18 can perform a job effectively compared to a 81 aged person - i mean to say physical jobs. As a person gets older and older the parts of his body too gets older and older. The cells in his body or brain cannot remember or perform as it is in the developing stage ie., at the youth. Similarly, although an aged person may like few spicy foods containing oily stuffs or sweets too much., his body is not able to have the digesting capacity. Hence the food habits at the older age should be very light.
Ofcourse there are many persons in this world who have distinctive characteristics and can perform things which is not possible among common persons. That is why some people are recorded their names in Guinness Book of Records and not common people like us. May be Mr. Desmond mother as suggested by you was so. But everybody cant be gifted so.
But Yes, i also agree with your views that if man have any tension about the food like, the grilled, fried and oily food it may effect his health in such cases whch is due to mental depression a human body may fail to digest the foods and that a person should have free mind while having food.
Thanks and best regards, Mala.
