Apply online by 31st March for Indian Railways Centralized Recruitment 2018

There is an extension in the last date for the online application for Indian Railways Centralized Recruitment 2018 for Level 1 posts of 7th CPC Pay Matrix. You can now make the online registration for applying to jobs in the various RRBs by 31st March 2018. Details of the eligibility requirements and application process has been provided in this article.

Last month, Indian Railways had issued a Centralized Employment Notice (CEN) 02/2018 via the official websites of the various Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), with the closing date of 12th March 2018. However, as per a later corrigendum notification, the closing date of the CEN has been extended up to 31st March 2018, 23.59 hrs. There are changes, too, in age criteria, minimum education qualification and exam fee. It is also mentioned that the online exam can be taken in 15 Indian languages.

Overview

The CEN is for vacancies at Level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix in various Railway units. The number of vacancies for each Board is displayed in the table below:

Applications should be submitted online to any one of the Railway Recruitment Boards. The initial pay is Rs. 18,000/- with other allowances as admissible at that time.

The application should be submitted via online mode only. Eligible candidates have to appear for a Computer Based Test (CBT). Once you qualify for this test, you will be required to undergo a Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The final stage is the Document Verification (DV) process.

Qualifying via the tests and receiving an e-call letter will not guarantee a job posting by the RRB. The RRB will conduct its own independent verification of eligibility criteria with reference to original documents of shortlisted candidates who have qualified in all the stages of the tests. At any point of time during the recruitment process or even on employment, the RRB may reject your application if it is found that you do not fulfil the requisite criteria.

Note that in case of two or more candidates securing same marks of the tests, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., the older candidate will be given higher seniority.

A selected candidate must execute a Security and/or Indemnity Bond wherever required and, if finally appointed, is liable for active service in the Railway Engineers' Unit of Territorial Army.

Additionally, you will be required to upload the scanned copies (in true color) of all the original certificates as applicable prior to the DV date through www.rrbdv.in portal. Please read the official notification for the list of documents & instructions given for these.

During this stage, you will need to submit the receipt of the offline exam fee payment. The final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates will be done once the requisite medical test is passed.

How to apply

Before applying online

  1. You should read the official notification as well as the Corrigendum.

  2. Keep ready these documents for quick uploading during the online application process:
    • Your colour photo - JPEG image of size 20 to 50KB.

    • SC/ST Certificate (only for seeking free travel pass) - JPEG image of size 50 to 100KB.

    • Scribe's colour photo (if applicable) - JPEG image of size 20 to 50KB.

Note: Please read the official notification for detailed instructions on the requirements for the colour photo.
  3. Ensure that the RRB to which you are filling in the online application is having the vacancy for your qualification and community/category subject to eligibility in terms of age and medical standards. This is very important, as once you select the RRB and complete the registration, change of RRB will not be permitted at all for any reason.

  4. Ensure that you have a personal mobile number and a personal valid e-mail active throughout the recruitment process. This is required for communications from RRBs, which will be only via SMS and/or email. You will not be able to put a request later for a change of mobile number or e-mail address at any point of the recruitment process.

Online application steps

  1. Click on the "New Registration" link on the home page of the Online Registration portal of CEN 2/2018. For example, if applying through the Ahmedabad RRB it is to be accessed at: https://ahmedabad.rrbonlinereg.in/

  2. For a quick reference of the RRBs portals refer to the table below -
List of Railway Recruitment Boards Websites
    [Source: [Source: http://www.rrbahmedabad.gov.in/]

  3. Select the RRB to which you would like to apply.

  4. Enter all personal details: Your name, your date of birth, names of both your parents, Aadhar Card number, State, SSLC/Matric Roll number, Year of passing SSLC/MATRIC, mobile number and email-id. Those having ITI/NAC qualification can enter Roll number/year of passing for ITI/NAC qualification instead of SSLC/Matric.

  5. On submitting the registration details, an OTP (One Time Password) will be sent to your email and another OTP to your mobile number. Click on the "Verify through OTP" link on the Home page of the online registration portal and enter the OTP received on your email and the OTP received on your mobile in the respective boxes. Once this is done, a unique registration number will be generated, which you need to keep for later reference during the recruitment process.

  6. Using the registration number, you can now proceed with the online application via the "Candidate Login" link on the home page.

  7. On final submission, you will be able to see the entire application displayed on the screen for confirmation once again. On the final confirmation, you can then take the print-out of the application and keep it safely for your record & future reference.

Note: Modifications in the application can be done prior to closing date & time via the 'Modify Application' link on the home page, which requires a modification fee of Rs.250/- (this fee is non-refundable.)

After the application process

You can confirm your eligibility status from the website of RRBs. An SMS and an email message will be sent to you, if you are eligible, about the e-call letter upload details. Then you can download the e-call letter (along with the e-call letter for a Scribe, if applicable) from the RRBs website about 10 days before the date of the CBT / PET/ Document Verification (as applicable). This call letter will not be sent by post.

At the test centre, you must bring your original e- call letter along with a valid Photo ID to the exam hall, failing which you will not be allowed to appear for the CBT / PET / Document Verification (as applicable). You also need to bring one colour photograph (of size 35mm x 45mm), same as the one which you uploaded in the online application process.

Important note: You must leave blank the spaces provided in the downloaded e-call letter for (i) writing self-declaration paragraph, (ii) signature and (iii) Left Thumb Impression (LTI). Do not fill up these at all while coming for the exam. You will need to fill these only at the venue of the test in the presence of the Invigilator at the exam hall & hand it over to the Invigilator before the conclusion of the exam. Also, at that time, do not write anything, including your signature, in capital letters. If you do so, it will be rejected.
