Patriarchy is not restricted to Earth alone

This poem narrates the tale of Medusa, a popular legendary Greek monster that turned people who looked into its eyes into stone. She was a chief priestess of Athena who got ravaged by the god Poseidon. The tragic tale reminds us of the present day judiciary system that exonerates the assailant and victimizes the victim.

"Medusa" is a popular legendary Greek monster that turned people who looked into its eyes into stone. But the reason why she was made a monster is largely unknown. She was a chief priestess of Greek goddess of wisdom Athena. Poseidon, the god of oceans, ravaged her in the temple of Athena and gods did nothing to stop him. Later Athena explains Medusa the reason behind her inaction is patriarchy in the paradise. She then turns the immensely beautiful Medusa into a monster to save her from advances of men in future.

This tragic and awful tale reminds us of the present day judiciary system that exonerates the assailant and victimizes the victim.

This poem is an attempt by me to captivate the strange tale.

Lord of every ocean,
Greek God Poseidon,
Has eyed a beautiful maiden.
Called Medusa
The chief priestess of Athena.
Scintillating Medusa bows down
to the goddess of the wisdom.
Poseidon from behind grappled
her and pinned her to the ground.
Gods bore witness to the rape
Yet did nothing. Just stayed
mute and deaf
As the priestess cried and dug
her nails into the alabaster shrug
Of Athena in hopes of help
In hopes of justice that'll never come.
The idol was idle. Gods ever-distant.
Laid bare on floor was prey of Poseidon.
She crawled to the statue of her patron.
"You are as cold as the stone you're made of."
No sooner did Medusa quote
than the goddess burst forth
The stone was animate now.
"You,my child, were ravaged before me.
Your mother. The patron of thee.
Forgive me and my inaction as a stone.
Patriarchy isn't restricted for earth alone.
Goddess of wisdom wanes before a God's will.
I cannot reverse the Fate but curse you I will.
This curse is a blessing in disguise.
Whoever dared to look into your eyes
Will be turned to a stone forever."

Her beauty was snatched from her.
She was branded as a vile monster.
This is a strange tale where no justice lies
And where the victim is the one getting victimised.
