About Indian Institute of Packaging

Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is an autonomous national institution set up with the support of the Indian industries under the control of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. The institution has its headquarters at Mumbai and is also operating at the regional centers located at Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. IIP focuses mainly on the development and the improvements in packaging by conducting a lot of research and development activities, training and educational programmes to upgrade the packaging standards.

An overview of Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging (PGDP)

Packaging has an important role in marketing and in the distribution of industrial products, consumer goods, and agriculture products. So, to make use of the packaging technology effectively, the Indian Institute of Packaging has developed a Post Graduate Diploma programme in Packaging (PGDP). It is a two-year degree programme which focuses on the package manufacturing, packaging activities and the manufacturing of packaging machinery. To provide a wide knowledge and the industrial practices on packaging industry, IIP follows a curriculum which covers 70% theory and 30% practical sessions. Industrial visits, project work, research and development activities, laboratory exercises and industrial training are also a part of the PGDP curriculum designed by IIP.

The institute also offers Diploma in Packaging course of one and half years duration through correspondence.

2018 PGDP admissions at IIP

Admissions into the Post Graduate Diploma degree in Packaging for the 34th batch are open at Indian Institute of Packaging for the academic year 2018-2020. Candidates who wish to obtain a PG diploma degree in packaging must satisfy the eligibility criteria and must follow the admission procedures of IIP.

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates with a maximum age of 30 years as on 31.05.2018 are eligible to apply. The age relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC.

  • Candidate must hold an undergraduate degree in science with the main subjects as Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry or any one of the subjects as the second subject in the 3-year degree are eligible to apply.

  • Candidates who have a minimum second class in Agriculture/ Polymer Science/ Food Science/ Engineering/Technology from any recognized university or any AICTE approved institution are also eligible to apply.

  • Only full-time candidates are eligible for PGDP programme. Candidates who have completed the degree in part-time or correspondence will not be considered for admissions.

  • Candidates who have an equivalent overseas qualification can also apply.

  • Candidates who are appearing for final year exams and those who are waiting for their final exam results can also apply for PGDP programme. Such candidates must produce their provisional results on the day of the interview. Failure in producing the final results will lead to the cancellation of admission process of that particular candidate.


How to apply for PGDP programme 2018-2020


Eligible candidates can follow any one of the below-mentioned ways to apply for PGDP course in IIP. Application form fee for PGDP programme is Rs.500/-


  1. Candidates can obtain the application form, syllabus and the prospectus from any one of regional centers of IIP by paying Rs.500/- in cash or by demand draft in favor of Indian Institute of Packaging payable at Mumbai or Delhi or Kolkata or Chennai or Hyderabad.

  2. Candidates can download the application from the official website of Indian Institute of Packaging [ http://www.iip-in.com/uploads/Home_pdf/Pdf/ApplicationForm.pdf ] and must strictly follow the submission guidelines as mentioned in the application form.

  3. Candidates can also submit the application form online at https://iiponline.iip-in.com/UI/Pages/PGDP-Instructions.aspx


Online application procedure


  1. Candidates who wish to apply via online mode must register their details in the online application form available at https://iiponline.iip-in.com/UI/Pages/Login-Page.aspx

  2. After successful registration, a registered candidate can login using their login credentials such as username and password to fill the application form.

  3. Application form must be filled as per the guidelines and the compulsory documents such as the photograph and the scanned copy of degree certificates, mark sheets and community certificate must be uploaded at the necessary places.

  4. Candidate can pay the application fee amount of Rs.500/- via online payment options or can also pay the amount in the form of DD drawn in favor of 'Indian Institute of Packaging' payable at Mumbai while submitting the printed copy of the filled-in application form.


Note:

  • Candidates must check the filled information before clicking 'Continue and Submit' button because the form cannot be edited after 'Continue and Submit' button is clicked.

  • The online application form will be processed only if candidate clicks the 'Confirm and Submit' button.

  • Keeping the page idle for more than 30 seconds will lead to session expiry. So, do not keep the page idle while filling the online application.


After successful submission of online application form, the candidates must take a print out of the duly filled application form and must enclose the below-mentioned documents and submit it in person at "T & E Division, HO Mumbai" or at any regional centers of IIP. Candidates can also send it via registered post/courier/speed post to "The Course Coordinator T & E Division E-2, MIDC Area, Andheri (East) Mumbai-400 093"

On the top of the envelope, write "PGDPCET-2018, ONLINE Application" and also on the backside of the demand draft, write the name and the registration ID number (will be mentioned in the application form)
Candidates are also requested to write the DD details at the print out copy of the application form in the space provided.

Attachments


  1. Demand draft for Rs.500/- (ignore if the amount is paid online).

  2. Print out copy of the duly filled application form

  3. Attested copies of the mark sheet, degree certificates ( Do not send the originals)


Candidates can check the application status by providing the registered email and the registration id by clicking on 'Check Your Status' option available in the website.

Selection procedure

Admissions to PGDP programme at IIP will be done by conducting written examination and personal interview.

After submitting the application forms, IIP will call the eligible candidates to appear for the written examination-PGDPCET 2018 (PGDP Common Entrance Test) conducted by IIP at their research institutes located Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The written examination will contain multiple choice questions from subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, and Mathematics. The syllabus for the written test will be at a graduate level.

Candidates who have cleared the written examination will be again called for a personal interview conducted by IIP at their research institutes located Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

The final selection of a candidate for admission into PGDP programme will be based on an average score of a candidate calculated as per the below-mentioned weightage.

  1. Marks scored in 10th Class/Matriculation : 10%

  2. Marks scored in 12th Class/Senior Secondary : 10%

  3. Marks scored in Graduation level : 30%

  4. Marks scored in the PGDPCET Entrance Examination of IIP : 30%

  5. Marks scored in Personal Interview : 20%


IIP will select the candidates based on the merit. So, after evaluating the final scores of the candidates, the list of candidates who got selected for PGDP programme at IIP will be displayed depending upon the availability of seats.

The seats for every academic year: Mumbai – 300; Delhi – 100; Kolkata – 60; Hyderabad - 40

Seat reservation at IIP is followed as per the Government norms: OBC - 27.0% ; SC - 15.0% ; ST - 7.5%
