During your blogging career there are many occasions when there is a need to upload a file or a picture to a free host. The need for this arises because Blogger only allows uploading of images and videos to it at present.
You may want to put music in your blog, provide links to download PDF/PPT/DOC/EXCEL etc. files. You may also want to put pictures in the background of your blog. You CANNOT link to files on your machine as it is not a server connected 24x7 to the Internet.
Hence you have to upload your files to FREE HOSTING which gives you space to store your files and link to them. One free host provided by Google is Googlepages at http://pages.google.com. To upload files to it follow these steps :
1. Login to http://pages.google.com.
2. In bottom frame of sidebar click the 'upload' link.
3. Browse button will show. Click it.
4. Explorer window will open.
5. Navigate to your music file on PC and select it.
6. Click Open.
7. File will upload and appear as a link.
8. Right click the link and select Copy Shortcut to get the URL of the file.
9. Paste the URL in code.
Another free host is Photobucket.com. Create a free account on it. Login to your account. Click the Browse button under "Upload Images from my PC". The Explorer window will open. Navigate to the file on your PC and select it. Click Open. Then click Upload button. The file will be uploaded to Photobucket and appear below. Under each file picture are provided four links :
1. Email & IM
2. Direct Link
3. HTML Code
4. IMG Code
Left Click once in the 'Direct Link' box and the file link is automatically copied to the clipboard. You can then paste it in any code. If you want to provide the file as a download use this code :
Download
Replace the CAPS with actual link of file as copied above.
If you want to show the picture on your blog Left-Click once in the 'Html Code' box and then paste the code in Edit Html tab of Post Editor or in a Html Page Element and save.
At present you can only upload image (pictures) and video files to your blog. Here is a step by step explanation on How to upload multiple images in a Blogger post :
Upload multiple pictures to your post in blogger
1. Login at Blogger.com.
2. Blogger Dashboard opens if login is successful. Click on +New Post link on the Dashboard.
3. The Post Editor will open. Type in a Title in the Title field.
4. To upload pictures click the blue square "Add Image" icon in top frame of post editor. Images should be in jpg, gif, bmp and png format. Each image should not be bigger than 8 MB.
5. The popup window will open for Upload Pictures dialog. Choose whether you wish to upload pictures from your computer or from the web.
6. If the pictures are in your computer click the Browse button under "Add an image from your computer". An explorer window will open. Navigate to the picture file on your hard disk and select it. Click Open button to close the explorer window.
7. The path of the file will appear in the field next to the Browse button. To upload another image click the 'Add Another Image' link to add another Browse button. You can do this three more times. Hence you can upload FIVE images simultaneously in one attempt.
8. Click each Browse button and select four other picture files as in Step six above.
9. To upload images from the Web paste the link of the picture in the URL text box under "Add an image from the web". To upload multiple images click the 'Add Another Image' link in the same section to show four more URL text boxes. Paste the links of your other images there.
10. Lastly Choose where you would like to position the image in your post, the size of the Image and whether you want the same options to apply every time you upload pictures. Then click the Upload Image button. All the images will land up at the top of the post. To arrange them at various positions in the post see Tips on Pictures in Blogger.
11. To Upload more images repeat steps four to ten. You can only upload five images at one time.
