Admission in M.Com. courses offered by St. Xaviers' College, Kolkata, in 2018

St. Xaviers' College, Kolkata is one of the most reputed colleges of the city. Presently the College invites application for admission in various Postgraduate and Undergraduate courses. In the present article, the author discusses admission procedure in two different M.Com. courses offered by the College.

St. Xaviers' College, Kolkata is a Christian Minority Higher Educational Institution, It is one of the oldest and most famous colleges in Kolkata. St. Xavier's College was founded in 1860 by the Society of Jesus. The College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. The motto of the College is NIHIL ULTRA: Nothing Beyond.

St. Xaviers' College offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses under five faculties: Arts, Science, Commerce, Business Administration and Education. The College also offers Ph.D. in Physics, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Commerce.

The College operates in three shifts:
(i) Morning Session (6am-9:50am) - B.Com. (For boys)
(ii) Day Session (9am-4:30pm) - B.A., B.Sc, and B.Ed (Co-educational)
(iii) Evening Session (3pm-8pm) - B.B.A and B.Com. (Co-educational)

St. Xaviers' College, Kolkata seeks application for admission in various Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses for 2018. However, in the present article, we will deal with the admission process in M.Com. courses offered by the College.

Courses offered

Presently the College offers two courses in M.Com. These two courses are: (a) M.Com. with specialisation Accounting & Finance, and (b) M.Com. with specialisation in Marketing.

Eligibility conditions to apply

Students of General category can apply for admission if they have scored minimum 55% in B.Com,(Hons.) or B.B.A(Hons.)/B.M.S(Hons.). SC/ST/Christian students can apply if they score minimum 45% in these courses. The admission is based upon the performance of the candidates in the admission test conducted by the College.

Interested candidates are required to apply online visiting the website of the College. Important dates related to the admission process are indicated below:-
Issue of Application forms through College Website: 17th April, 2018 to 4th June, 2018
Date and time of admission test: 11th June, 2018, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Announcement of first list: 15th June, 2018
Date of counselling of candidates: 20th-22nd June, 2018
Announcement of second list: 26th June, 2018 (In case of availability of vacancies.)
Orientation programme: 4th July, 2018
Commencement of class: 5th July, 2018

Pattern of question papers in the admission test

The pattern of question papers in the admission test is indicated below:-

For M.Com. with specialisation in Accounting & Finance

Accounting & Finance: 40 marks
Economics: 20 marks
Mathematics & Statistics: 20 marks
English: 20 marks

For M.Com. with specialisation in Marketing

Marketing Management: 40 marks
Economics: 20 marks
Mathematics & Statistics: 20 marks
English: 20 marks

Course fee

At the time of admission in M.Com., Indian students are required to pay around Rs. 37,000/- which includes the fee for the first quarter. The students of other SAARC countries are required to pay approximately double the fees paid by the Indian students. The students of other countries are required to pay three times the fees paid by the Indian students.
