Online applications for Indian Navy Sailor Artificer Apprentice enrollment Feb 2019 batch

The Indian Navy invites applications from unmarried male citizens of India to enrol as sailors for the Artificer Apprentice (AA)-February 2019 batch.

Eligibility criteria

Age criteria

You must be born between 1st February 1999 to 31st January 2002 (both dates inclusive).

Academic qualifications

You must have qualified in the 10+2 exam with a score of 60% or more in aggregate with Maths and Physics and at least one of these subjects: Chemistry or Biology or Computer Science. The qualifying exam should be of a Board of School Education which is duly recognized by MHRD, Govt. of India.

Pay and Allowances

As an Artificer Apprentice during the initial training period you will receive a stipend of Rs.14,600/- per month.

Once you successfully complete the training, you will be placed in Level 3 of the Defence Pay Matrix with pay band of Rs.21,700-Rs.69,100. Additionally, you will be paid MSP@Rs.5200 plux 'X' Group Pay @ Rs.6200/- per month + DA as applicable.

Perquisites

During the duration of training and later, you will be provided with reading material, uniforms, food & accommodation, etc free of cost.

As a Sailor you will be entitled to medical treatment, leave travel concessions for yourself & dependents, group housing benefits and other privileges. You can also get annual and casual leave, house rent allowances and coverage of children's education. After retirement, you will get benefits of pension, gratuity and leave encashment. All the perquisites are as per Govt. orders which will be current/amended from time to time.

There is also insurance cover (on contribution) of Rs.41lakhs for submariners and Rs.37.50lakhs for other sailors.

Promotion

Prospects of promotion are up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-I, which is Level 8 of the Defence Pay Matrix with pay scale of Rs.47,600-Rs.1,51,000 + MSP @ Rs.5200 + 'X' Group Pay @ Rs. 6200/- + DA. You can also avail of the opportunity to be a Commissioned Officer based on your performance & qualification through the requisite exams.



Selection process

Selection will be based on the order of merit on your performance in (a) a computer-based exam, (b) a physical fitness test (PFT) and (c) fitness in medical exams.

Computer-based exam format

There are a total of 100 objective type multiple-choice questions, each of one mark. A wrong answer will have a negative mark (deduction) of one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question. The one-hour question paper will be available in Hindi and English. There are 4 sections: English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge. You need to pass in all the sections and in aggregate. The questions will be based on the same level as of the syllabus of 10+2. The syllabus for it can be checked out at the official website of the Indian Navy.

Physical fitness test

You must qualify in the physical fitness test for selection. The test consists of: (i) 1.6km run to be completed in 7 minutes, (ii) 20 squat ups, (iii) 10 push-ups.
Note: It would be good to be proficient in sports, swimming and extra-curricular activities.

Medical exam

You must be in good mental health and be physically fit, free from any defect which would come in the way of performing your duties efficiently either ashore or afloat under all types of conditions. The medical standards' requirements are as follows:
  • Height: minimum 157cms.

  • Weight and chest: proportionate with height, with minimum chest expansion of 5cms.

  • Visual standards: (i) Without glasses: Vision of both, better eye & worse eye, should be 6/12; (ii) With glasses: Vision of better eye should be 6/9 and worse eye should be 6/12.

Note: You must ensure that you have good oral hygiene. Get tartar on teeth removed beforehand. Also, wax should be removed from the ears. Note that permanent body tattoos are permitted only on the inner face of forearms.

Exam fee

Candidates must pay a fee of Rs.106 through online mode via Net banking or using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit card/UPI. This fee is non-refundable. SC and ST candidates do not have to pay any fee.

The Admit Card for the online exam will be issued only on successful payment of the fee.

Training schedule

The course training for AA will begin in February 2019. This includes 9 weeks basic training at INS Chilka. Subsequently, you will get professional training in an allotted trade as per requirement of service at any Naval Training Establishment.

On successful completion of training, the initial engagement will be for 20 years.

How to apply

  1. Submit your application online at the Indian Navy official website by first registering with a valid email ID and mobile number. There are two ways to register: either with Aadhaar or without Aadhaar.

    You can also upload the application online from a Common Service Centre (CSC) across India, on payment of a fixed fee of Rs.60+GST. This facility is an optional one and not mandatory.

  2. Once you have registered, you can log in and click on 'Current Opportunities' and then on the 'Apply' button.

  3. Complete the form with all the requisite details and upload the required scanned documents (academic mark sheets & certificates which should be scanned in original).

  4. The photography which you upload should be of good quality with a blue background and sise between 60-100KB.

Important notes
  1. If you so wish, you can volunteer for the submarine arm whilst filling the online application form. Candidates for the submarine arm will be subjected to Submarine Arm Medical Standards and if selected will be given the associated perks & privileges.

  2. When applying online, select two centres for the online exam. You can be allotted to any centre.

  3. The call-up letter cum admit card will be required to be downloaded from the official website and will not be sent by post.

  4. Documents submitted along with the application will not be verified prior to the online exam. All the original documents will be verified only at the time of the PFT at the various centres and at the final exam at INS Chilka. If details provided in the online application do not match these original documents, then the candidate will be cancelled.

  6. Those selected and called for the final medical exam at INS Chilka will need to get their antecedents verified on a police verification form/online police verification form from the Superintendent of Police of their local jurisdiction. The form is available at the Navy's website.

  7. Those who have been declared permanently medically unfit by any Armed Forces hospital in a previous recruitment process for the same entry in the Navy need not apply.

Important dates

  • Registration of online application: 2nd June to 15th June 2018.

  • Download of call letter cum Admit card: August 2018.

  • Online exam: tentatively at the end of July 2018.

  • Results of online exam: tentatively after 15 days of the exam.

  • Merit list of candidates who have passed PFT and initial medical exam will be available on the website: 20th December 2018.
