The Indian Coast Guard is inviting applications, from Indian male candidates, for filling up of vacancies as Navik (General Duty), under the 10+2 Entry. The application process is underway (began on 01/07/2018) and eligible candidates may apply on or before 17:00 hours, 10/07/2018.

Navik (General Duty) are employed as sailors, communication specialists, weapons systems operators and divers or as maritime/aviation support roles.

Eligibility criteria


Below are section wise conditions required for eligibility for joining the Indian Coast Guard.
  • Candidates with physical disabilities are not eligible to apply
  • Gender: Male
  • Nationality: Indian

Education Qualification


  • Candidates eligible for Navik (General Duty) post should have studied Maths & Physics in +2
  • They should have qualified the +2 examination from a Central/State recognised board and secured an aggregate total of 50% in all subjects
  • They must also have scored an aggregate of 50% in Physics & Maths
  • Candidates with an outstanding record in sports are eligible for 5% relaxation, in the minimum marks
  • Such candidates should have played a sport or participated in athletic events at the National Level (Open National Level Championships/Interstate Tournaments) and ranked among the top three positions
  • Wards of uniformed Coast Guard personnel, deceased while serving, are also entitled to the 5% relaxation

Age criteria


Candidates must be aged between 18 years and 22 years and born between 01/02/1996 – 21/01/2001, both dates inclusive.

SC/ST candidates are entitled to an upper age relaxation of 5 years, while a relaxation of 3 years is applicable for candidates belonging to the OBC category.

Pay scale


Selected candidates for Navik (General Duty) position in Bhartiya Tatrakshak will receive a fixed emolument of Rs. 21.7000 per month.

Promotion


Navik (General Duty) personnel in the Indian Coast Guard can get promoted up to the rank of Pradhan Adhikari, based on the rules of the service.

The pay scale for Pradhan Adhikari under the 7th pay commission is Rs.47,600 plus DA.

According to the Indian Coast Guard service rules promotion to the officer rank is possible, based on certain criteria.

Selection process & examination details


Applications submitted online on the Indian Coast Guard portal will be sorted centre-wise before candidates are short-listed for the selection examination. The examination will be conducted in October/November 2018, tentatively.

The final selection will be based on the following –
  • Candidates will be short-listed in Centres based on the percentage of marks of applicants at that centre
  • The qualifying cut-off percentage of individual centres may be raised in case the number of applications received have a higher percentage
  • Short-listed applicants will appear in an objective type, written examination, covering the following subjects – Maths, basic Chemistry, Physics, GK, Current Affairs, Quantitative Aptitude and English
  • Candidates that qualify the written examination will be called for a preliminary medical examination and Physical Fitness Test
  • The tests can take between 2-3 days

Physical Fitness Test


All those who qualify the written exam, will undergo the physical fitness test. They will do so at their own risk. Candidates must bring their own sports rig consisting of –
  • Shoes
  • Shorts/Trouser
  • T-shirt
  • Socks
  • Underwear

The physical fitness test will comprise of the following physical activities –
  • 20 Squats
  • 1.6 Km run in 7 minutes
  • 10 Push-ups

A list of successful candidates will be drawn, based on the performance in all exams and exhibited on the Indian Coast Guard's official website in December 2018/January 2019.

Basic Training schedule


The basic training for the new recruits will be conducted in INS Chika, in February 2019, followed by sea training and professional training in the trade/branch allotted. The allocation of the branch/trade will depend on the performance during basic training and the requirement of the Coast Guard.

Recruits found unsuitable during the basic training, owing to poor performance are liable to be discharged, anytime during this period.
