Course overview
Sharing many modules with BSc (Hons) Architecture, this course is concerned with the design of the constructed environment.

It examines the relationship between materials, environment, function and production that must be engineered in order to achieve optimum building performance. Although building design forms a significant component of course content, this degree is specifically focused on the link between design and production, and the technical understanding required to realise design.

The main aims of this degree are:

to introduce and develop your knowledge of the fundamental scientific, technological and organisational principles underpinning architectural technology
to apply those principles to a range of building design problems, and deliver appropriate solutions
to enable you to achieve a level of skill and knowledge in creative design and associated technical competencies equivalent to CIAT membership.
Architectural Technology has three major themes: technology, design and procurement and contracts. To support the delivery of theoretical material, project work and site visits will help students to put theory into context.

A range of course options allows students to focus on particular areas of interest or to focus on the requirements of a favoured career path.

When you graduate you will be able to:
Recommend and advise on the selection of technical designs.
Develop and test technical design solutions.
Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the regulatory factors affecting project design.
This course is not simply concerned with developing your intellectual skills. It's also about giving you a range of practical skills that are much in demand in this dynamic industry.
