Hotel Management National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test for Teachers recruitment 2018


Want to take up a teaching job vacancy in a hotel management institute in India? In order to be eligible for a teaching recruitment in hotel management institutes in India, you must first register for the National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test 2018 (NHTET-2018). On successfully passing this test you can then apply for a direct recruitment for posts of Assistant Lecturers (AL) and Teaching Associates (TA) in all the IHMs and FCIs in India. National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India invites has announced the schedule for registration for the National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test 2018 (NHTET-2018). This test is compulsory for those who wish to apply for direct recruitment posts of Assistant Lecturers (AL) and Teaching Associates (TA) in the 65 IHMs (Institutes of Hotel Management) and FCIs (Food Craft Institutes) which function under the aegis of NCHMCT. The institute could be sponsored by Central Govt., State Govt. PSU or private which is under the umbrella of the Council. Without a valid NHTET pass certificate, you cannot take up a teaching position at an IHM or FCI.

The next NHTET-2018 is scheduled for October for which those with the requisite hospitality course qualification and fulfilling other requisite criteria can appear. However, it should be noted that qualifying the NHTET exam does not entitle you to get a job of AL or TA automatically, but only to apply for the vacancy. There would be a further selection process as prescribed by the IHM/FCI separately.

Eligibility requirements

Only Indian citizens can appear for NHTET-2018 and they must fulfil the following criteria -

Age criteria

Age should not be more than 30 years. Those born on or after the following dates are eligible to apply:
  1. For General Category candidates: 31st December 1988.
  2. For OBC Category candidates: 31st December 1985.
  3. For SC/ST and PD Categories: 31st December 1983.


Note: On successfully passing the NHTET-2018, you can apply against any vacancy of AL and TA (the maximum age is 30 years with relaxation for reserved candidates as stated above) for a period of one year.



Educational qualification and work experience criteria

You must have a full-time Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Administration/Hotel Management after your 10+2 from a recognized university with at least 60% marks. In addition, you must have a minimum of two years of industry experience post-qualification of the Degree. Note that IT would be considered as part of the course and will not be considered as experience.
OR
You must have a full-time Master's Degree in Hospitality Administration/Hotel Management after Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Administration/Hotel Management from a recognized university with at least 60% marks either in the Bachelor or Master's Degree qualifying exam.

Note: If you are appearing in the final semester / final year exam of the Master's Degree and have passed all the subjects of the previous year/semester, then also you can apply for NHTET-2018. However, if you are in the second year (3rd Semester) of the Master's Degree in Hospitality, then you cannot apply.

Application fees

The fee for the application form is as follows:
  1. General, OBC category male candidates: Rs.800/-.
  2. SC/ST/PD category candidates: Rs.400/-.
  3. All female candidates: Rs.400/-.


How to apply

  1. You must apply online at the Tourism & Hospitality Institute Management System website after checking out the detailed brochure which contains information about the exam scheme and passing criteria. This brochure is also available online at the website.
  2. After submitting the online application form, take a print out of the submitted application.
  3. Send the printed application along with the requisite fee through a Demand Draft by Speed Post to reach NHMCT, Noida by 29th 2018 at this address:

Important dates

  • Online application begins: 2nd September to 25th September 2018.
  • Last date for receipt of confirmation sheet along with fee and other documents: 29th September 2018.
  • Download of Admit Card from the official website: 2nd to 5th October 2018.
  • Date of NHTET-2018 in 18 cities in India: 6th October 2018. Time: 9a.m. to 1.30p.m. (two sessions)
  • Uploading of the answer key: By 8th October 2018.
  • Declaration of NHTET-2018 results: 26th October 2018.


Note: Those who wish to challenge answers can do so via e-mail to diraf-nchm@nic.in up to 13th October 2018. The expert committee will schedule a meeting on the challenged answers and upload the revised answer key along with the committee's decision latest by 19th October 2018.

TET - Teachers Eligibility Test 2011

In accordance by the provisions of sub-section(1) of Section 23 of Right to Education act, National Council for Teachers Education(NCTE) had made some minimum qualifications for person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for class I to VIII. Also it is compulsory that the candidate should pass the Teacher Eligibility test(TET) which will be conducted by Central or State Government. The Test will be conducted by a suitable government agency in with the guidelines of NCTE.

A detailed job related information is nicely presented by the author in this article.

So far my understanding for getting a lecturer job in colleges was through PG in the subject and then qualifying NET test and then apply. This appears a totally different route.

Anyway it is a good opportunity as these jobs will be exclusively for those who have degrees in hotel management.
