National Board of Examination DNB Final Exam December 2018 online applications


Want to appear for the Diplomate of National Board exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations? NBE has issued the schedule of the DNB final exam of December 2018 for Super Specialties and Broad Specialties. This article provides complete information on the eligibility criterion to appear for the NBE-DNB exam for DNB, MD/MS and DM/M.Ch. candidates.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has announced the schedule for the DNB Final Examination to be conducted in December 2018 in various Broad and Super Specialities. The application form for the DNB (Diplomate of National Board) final exam of the December 2018 session can be submitted online at from 15th September 2018 to 12th October 2018.

About DNB Exam for Broad Specialties

Theory Examination: The theory exam has four papers, with maximum marks of 100 each. A candidate is permitted a time of maximum three hours. Only those who have qualified the theory exam can appear for the practical exam.

Practical Examination: The practical exam's maximum marks is 300. It consists of Clinical Examination and Viva.



About DNB Exam for Super Specialties

Theory Exam: This has maximum marks of 300. There are three question papers and the maximum time permitted is 3 hours for each paper. Those who have qualified the theory exam can appear for the practical exam.

Practical Examination: This has maximum marks of 300. It includes a Clinical Exam and Viva.

Exam fees

The exam fee for Broad Specialties is as follows-
  1. DNB: Exam fee is Rs.5500/-. There is no registration fee.
  2. MD/MS: Exam fee is Rs. 5500 and the registration fee is Rs.1000. Total = Rs. 6500/-.
  3. Second/Third attempt for only Practical Exam: Rs. 5500/-.


The above fee is inclusive of exam fees and the information bulletin. The information bulletin will not be sold separately; it is available at the official website: www.exam.natboard.edu.in

The exam fee for Super Specialities is as follows -
  1. DNB: Exam fee is Rs. 5500/-. There is no registration fee.
  2. DM/M.Ch.: Exam fee is Rs. 5500/- and the registration fee is Rs. 1000/-. Total = Rs. 6500/-.
  3. Second attempt for only Practical Exam: Rs. 5500/-.


Payment mode: The exam fee has to be paid via the online payment gateway with a Credit Card or a Debit Card issued by banks in India.

Note that if you do not appear for the exam or are found to be ineligible, then you will forfeit the exam fee. Hence, ensure that you do read the terms & conditions as well as the eligibility criteria before paying the fee. Furthermore, the fee will not be refunded or carried forward if the application is rejected.

Who can apply

You should have undergone training as a DNB trainee at any NBE-accredited institute or any medical college/university recognized Institute after having registered with NBE as a DNB trainee and are completing your training as per the following schedule. You can undertake the DNB Final Examination in the same speciality subjected to completion of training by the date mentioned and submission of the certificate to this effect.

The cutoff date for completion of DNB Training is 30th June 2019.

The submission of the Training Completion Certificate along with leave records for DNB trainees is an essential pre-requisite. In case you do not submit the training completion certificate (as per applicable format) with the hard copy of the printed application form, then your application may be rejected. Ex-candidates are also required to submit a copy of the training completion certificate.

For MD/MS

Those who passed the final exam leading to the award of Post Graduate Degree from Indian Universities recognized by the provisions of Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and MD/MS degree has been awarded on or before 30th September 2018 can apply for the DNB Final exam in the same broad specialty.

Submission of proof of having an MD/MS degree on or before 30th September 2018 is an essential prerequisite. In case you do not submit the requisite proof of MD/MS degree, the application will be rejected.

For Post Diploma

Those registered with NBE and completing their prescribed training by 30th June 2019 are eligible to appear in DNB final Exam. Submission of Training Completion Certificate along with leave records for DNB trainees is an essential prerequisite. In case you do not submit the training Completion certificate and leave records with the hard copy of the printed application form, then the application may be rejected.

Thesis Submission to NBE: As per NBE norms, writing a thesis is essential for all DNB candidates towards partial fulfilment of eligibility for award of DNB degree certificate. DNB candidates must submit their thesis before the cutoff date which shall be 30th June of the same year for candidates appearing for their scheduled December final theory exam. Similarly, candidates who are appearing in their scheduled June DNB final exam must submit their thesis by 31st of preceding December. For DM/MCh Candidates

You should have DM/MCh degree or Provisional Pass Certificate issued on or before 30th September 2018 in the eligible specialty. DM/MCh qualification should be from an Indian University and duly recognized as per the provisions of Indian Medical Council Act 1956.

You must submit the proof of having DM/MCh degree on or before 30th September 2018, otherwise, your application will be rejected.



Important Dates

  • Information bulletin and application form availability: 15th September 2018 onward
  • Last date of submission of application form: 12th October 2018
  • Exam dates for DNB Final Theory: 7th 8th and 9th December 2018.


How to apply

Fill up the 2018 DNB online registration form available at the officiall NBE DNP application portal.

After successfully submitting the online application form, send the printed copy of the application form along with requisite documents (self-attested or certified) as listed below to reach latest by 22nd October 2018 at:

List of documents:
  1. The printed copy of the completed application form which you have to download from the website after successful submission.
  2. The DNB Training completion certificate as per the prescribed format which is given in the information bulletin (Annexure-III.)
  3. A copy of letter of Registration issued by NBE.
  4. The Thesis acceptance letter issued by NBE, if any.
