Asian Current Research on Fluid Inclusions (A C R O F I - 2)
12 to 14 November, 2008
Organized By: Department of Geology & Geophysics Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur INDIA (under the aegis of IMA , WGIM)
Background The Asia Current Research on Fluid Inclusions (ACROFI in line with PACROFI and ECROFI) started in 2006 under the aegis of the IMA Working Group on Inclusions in Minerals (WGIM). The first meeting was held at Nanjing University, China during 26-28 May, 2006. The meeting was attended by all the Asian countries and Australia with delegates from America and Europe. It was agreed that ACROFI should be continued with greater vigor and enthusiasm and the venue of the second meeting was decided to be the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India.
Scientific Sessions To include broad topics relevant to crustal fluids: magmatism, mineralization, metamorphism, deformation and sedimentary basin evolution. The actual scientific sessions will be decided after seeing the abstracts. Possible additional sessions could be Analytical Techniques, PVTX relationships in fluid mixtures, Melt Inclusions and Quantitative Modeling of Fluid Evolution. The meeting will surely address topical issues in Fluid Inclusion Research. The opening session will commemorate the contributions of Ed Roedder and Asoke Mookherjee, the two great souls that departed in 2006.
As far as possible, parallel sessions will be avoided or minimized. This is open to suggestions from participants.
Abstracts and Proceedings: We would like to follow a slightly different format: instead of brief abstracts, we would like to have extended abstracts that should have the important findings briefly presented as text and figures so that it can be cited by others. The extended abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee and experts. The accepted abstracts will be distributed to delegates on CDs and will be archived on the conference web page to be transferred to a suitable site later on. In addition, another CD containing oral presentations (power point presentations in PDF format) can also be available to delegates, subject to general agreement.
Full papers of the work presented in the conference will be published as regular research papers in the Journal of Asian Earth Sciences / Acta Petrologica Sinica. Publication of the papers will be after routine review process of these journals. Delegates planning to get their work published as original research articles or reviews in any of these journals would be requested to hand over their respective manuscripts to the Convener.
Conference: 12.11.2008 10:00 AM to 14.11.2008 5:30 PM
Important Dates: Submission of pre-registration form:(This will help the conference organizers to obtain clearance from Government of India for overseas delegates). 28th February, 2008
Deadline of submission of extended abstract along with registration form: 30th June, 2008
Review of abstracts and acceptance for oral/poster presentation , issue of letter of invitation: 15th August, 2008
Deadline for receipt of cheques/drafts for registration fees: 31st August, 2008
(Delegates who want to have the letter of invitation early for visa are advised to send extended abstracts well in advance. The review process will start as soon as we receive them).
Venue Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, is the first premier Institute in Science and Technology established immediately after the independence to impart quality education and build up manpower for development of S&T in India. Situated in a tranquil environment, the ambience of the Institute is liked by one and all, visiting from the outside world. The Department of Geology & Geophysics in the Institute is one of the oldest departments in the country and is actively involved in fluid inclusion research for the past two decades. Being proximal (~115 Km WSW) to Kolkata, the biggest metropolis in the country and well connected; still away from the city is the biggest advantage of the place.
Delegates who do not intend to participate in the field trip may reach Kolkata by mid-day of 11th November, 2008. Transport from Kokata Airport to IIT Kharagpur will be provided, the cost of which is included in the Registration Fee.
Timing November is the most pleasant time in India (more true for the eastern part) to hold conference and field trips, admittedly though it gives the organizers of ACROFI-2 a little more time than two years from the first and probably a little shorter time to the successors.
Temperature during November mostly varies from 12-15 deg celcius. Light warm clothes will be sufficient.
