International Symposium for Research Scholars on Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering
organized by
Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras as a Golden Jubilee Event together with Chennai Chapter of Indian Institute of Metals, Metallurgical Engineering Students Association (METSA) and the Material Advantage Chapter at IIT Madras.
Preamble Development of communication and analytical skills as well as exchange of ideas and interaction among research scholars are an integral part of training during the research programme of every institute. Though there are a large number of symposia regularly organized all over the world, research scholars do not get enough opportunity to share their work in these symposia. The present symposium, International Symposium for Research Scholars (ISRS-2008) on Metallurgy, Materials Science & Engineering, is devoted solely to research scholars (both MS and PhD - anyone registered for a research-based degree) so that they can interact with their contemporaries from all over the world, exchange research ideas, and compare quality of research, analytical skills and presentation skills. It broadens their perspective by increasing their awareness of diverse areas of research worldwide. ISRS-2008 aims at achieving these objectives and provides a unique forum for research scholars from all over the world.
Keynote lectures by experts will be an added attraction of ISRS-2008. These will inspire the research scholars with an exposure to a variety of topics and discussions with prominent experts.
The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME), IIT Madras in association with IIM Chennai Chapter, has been organizing biennial symposia, National Symposium of Research Scholars (NSRS), on Materials Science and Engineering, since 1996, at the national level. This was later brought under the International Symposium of Research Students (ISRS) banner since 2004. The first ever ISRS, in 2004, on Materials Science and Engineering, attracted over 200 participants from 11 countries - 43 Indian Universities / Organizations and 28 foreign Universities / Organizations. This year’s symposium, the third in the series of international symposia, ISRS-2008, is of special significance since Dept. of MME, as well as IIT Madras celebrates its Golden Jubilee in 2008. We earnestly hope that it will be a greater success bringing more research scholars together.
Research scholars, including scientists from various laboratories and industries pursuing their doctoral / masters work are invited to present their original work and participate in ISRS-2008, a three day event in the academic and serene environs of IIT Madras.
IIT Madras is committed to providing a world class education to its students. Since ISRS-2008 serves the educational experience of research scholars by providing them with a world class, international, forum to exchange and enhance their research ideas, IIT Madras has designated ISRS-2008 as a Golden Jubilee event.
Scope The symposium will have oral and poster sessions covering topics such as those given below:
Advanced Materials Advances in Materials Processing Advances in Steels Biomaterials Casting and Solidification Ceramics Composites Environmental Degradation Materials Forming Technology Materials Joining Technology Mechanical Behaviour of Materials Nanoscience and Technology Non-Destructive Evaluation of Materials Phase Transformations and Physical Metallurgy Process Modelling and Simulation Powder Metallurgy Surface Engineering
Proceedings and Publication All the papers presented at ISRS-2008 will be published in the form of proceedings. Selected papers are likely to be published in Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals.
