Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre(Jamia Milia Islamia )


Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK MCRC) is one of the best research institutes in the world in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. The centre was established in 1982 during the tenure of Shri Anwar Jamal Kidwai as Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, who was the first Chairman of this Centre. Mr. Kidwai had visualized the Mass Communication Research Centre as a new thrust in Jamia's traditional involvement with the common people.

The centre offers courses viz. P.G. Diploma in Development Communication and M.A. in Mass Communication for which candidates have to appear for entrance examination (written test and interview).

The centre also encourages working professionals and experienced journalists to carry out research works in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication.


Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have completed a three years bachelor’s degree course in any discipline from a recognized university/institution are eligible to apply, provided they have secured 50 percent or more marks in aggregate (45% for SC/ST candidates) in their first degree examination of a Course which is of three or more years' duration after the 10+2 Examination.

Candidates appearing for their qualification/awaiting results are also eligible to apply. However, they will have to submit the proof of their eligibility at the time of interview.

Entrance Examination Pattern
Candidates will be admitted on the basis of a written test and interview conducted by AJK MCRC, Jamia Milia University.

The admission test is conducted to assess the potential talent of the candidates, their aptitude, general awareness and views over a wide area of knowledge. The questions cover current affairs, sports, culture, science, mass communications, media and development. The test will be of one and a half hour duration and may comprise objective type and descriptive essay type sections.

2-year MA programme comprises:

Paper I (200 marks) for evaluation of knowledge and aptitude
Paper II (40 marks) on media analysis
Portfolio (100 marks) media related work
Interview (60 marks)

PGD in Journalism, the entrance test comprises:

Written test of 200 marks
Interview (45 marks)
Portfolio (55 marks)

Candidates short-listed on the basis of the qualifying admission test would be called for interview before a panel of experts. The number of candidates called for interview shall be 3 times the number of seats provided they have secured a minimum of 33% marks in the test.

Commencement of Classes: 16th July
