NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that water supply in the Capital has started showing improvement with release of more water by Haryana.

Addressing the concluding session of 85th three-day Bhagidari workshop over the weekend, Ms. Dikshit said Delhi had been insisting on only its share of water which was prescribed as per 1994 water sharing agreement though the demand has gone up over the years with increase in population.

“The Delhi Jal Board has been able to streamline drinking water supply with its effective management system and its water conservation initiatives,” she added.

The Chief Minister said the discoms have also been instructed to ensure uninterrupted supply of power to consumers. They have been told to ensure supply even if it meant purchasing power from other States at a higher rate. Delhi, she added, was the only State where subsidy of one rupee per unit was being given on restriction of consumption at a reasonable level.
Video-conferencing

Ms. Dikshit said she had been regularly interacting with members of residents’ welfare association and officials at the district level through video-conferencing from her office at Delhi Secretariat. This had helped in strengthening the Bhagidari initiative. “My Delhi I Care Fund is available to meet those immediate developmental works which are not taken up by authorities or not being recommended by elected representatives,” she added.

The Government was going to constitute civic clubs in schools and residents’ welfare associations were being provided porta cabins for conducting their office work. She exhorted the RWAs to render constructive contribution in making Delhi a better city for the Commonwealth Games.
