PR1201 PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY II

1. MECHANICS OF METAL CUTTING
Cutting tool angles – tool signature – tool materials – orthogonal cutting – oblique cutting – cutting forces – Merchants’ circle diagram – tool wear and tool life – machinability – tool dynamometer (basic concepts).
2. CAPSTAN AND TURRET LATHES
Capstan and Turret lathes – Types – Main parts – Attachment - indexing mechanism – work holder – tool holders – Multi spindle automats - tool layout for typical components – Automatic feeding mechanism – Bar stock feeding, magazine feeding and hopper feeding.
3. GEAR MANUFACTURE
Different methods of Gear manufacture – Gear hobbing and gear shaping machines - specifications – gear generation – different methods – gear finishing and shaving – Grinding and lapping of hobs and shaping cutters – gear honing – gear broaching.

4. SURFACE FINISHING
Fine finishing processes – honing, lapping, polishing, buffing, burnishing and electroplating.

5. UNCONVENTIONAL MACHINING PROCESSES
Need for unconventional processes - principles and applications of the following processes - abrasive jet machining, water jet machining, ultrasonic machining, Electro discharge machining, electrochemical machining, electrochemical grinding, chemical machining, LASER beam machining, electron beam machining, plasma arc machining.
