Part-time B.Tech. admission is restricted to diploma holders who are employed with at least two years' professional experience at the time of submitting applications. Work experience should be in Government/quasi Government organisations, industrial firms duly registered under the Cooperative Societies Act, public or private limited companies registered under the Companies Act, private-aided polytechnics and private-aided and unaided engineering colleges in the State.

One-year apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act will be taken in lieu of experience.

Part-time degree courses are offered in a few selected engineering colleges in the State for students possessing a diploma to acquire Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in the relevant branch. The course extends over a period of four academic years. The classes will be conducted normally in the evening during all working days and on holidays if necessary, in accordance with the syllabi of the universities concerned. Tuition fee of Rs.7,000 a year is to be paid in two instalments and a special fee of Rs.1,200 a year will be charged. This fee can be revised by the Government.

Applicants should be Indian nationals employed in Kerala and the diploma obtained must be after undergoing regular institutional course of three years. Admission is restricted to the engineering branch in which they have obtained the diploma. Diploma holders in mechanical/automobile/ tool and die/wood and paper technology will be eligible for admission to part-time B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering.

Government Engineering Colleges in Thrissur, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram and the T.K.M. College of Engineering, Kollam, offer part-time B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering. Intake is 40 in each college.

Admission notification will be published by the Directorate of Technical Education and selection is based on marks obtained in the final year diploma examination and marks for the qualifying period of experience calculated as two marks per year. Maximum marks awarded towards experience will be limited to 20. In case of a tie in the index ranking marks, weightage will be given to those having high range.

No objection certificate from the employees has to be submitted for admission. More details can be collected either from the colleges concerned or from the Directorate of Technical Education, Padmavilasom Road, Fort, Thiruvananthapuram.
