B.Tech. through distance education mode

Part-time B.Tech. course in civil engineering branch is available at the Government Engineering College, Sreekariyam, Thiruvananthapuram; Government Engineering Colleges at Thrissur and Kannur; T.K.M. College of Engineering Kollam for employed persons with at least two years' professional experience. They should have passed the three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering. Even through the course is conducted on a part-time basis, the B.Tech degree awarded is equivalent to the regular B.Tech. course.

Distance education

IGNOU offers a B.Tech. in Civil (Construction Management - BTCM) course in the distance education mode. Those who have passed the three-year diploma course in civil/ mechanical/ electrical/ computer/ architecture/ chemical engineering and are employed in the relevant fields are eligible for admission.

IGNOU also conducts a similar course - B.Tech in Civil (Water Resource Engineering - BTWRE) course in the distance education mode. Those who have passed the three-year diploma in civil/ mechanical / electrical / computer / architecture / chemical engineering and are employed in the relevant field are eligible for admission.

The four-year B.Tech. Civil construction Management programme has been designed to impart training and continuing professional education to upgrade diploma-level manpower engaged in managing construction tasks. The programme structure has been designed so as to provide inbuilt modularity and flexibility.

The successful completion of the first two modules (first and second year) makes you eligible for the award of Advanced Diploma in Construction Management (ADCM). The student will have the flexibility to study either for ADCM and exit from the system or to move further to complete the B.Tech. degree.

B.Tech Civil (Water Resource Engineering) is a continuing education programme for working diploma holders engaged in the water resources sector. It is a four-year degree programme that offers in built flexibility in terms of intermediate award of Advanced Diploma in Water Resource engineering (ADWRE) after successful completion of first two modules. Students also have an option to discontinue after obtaining ADWRE and take up studies as a later date to complete the degree programmes.

The Directorate of Distance Education or the Annamalai University (www.annamalaiuniversity.ac.in) offers diploma courses in concrete technology and design of concrete structures and diploma in construction management. Those who have passed Diploma in Civil Engineering / BE Civil Engineering / BE Civil and Structural Engineering / AMIE Civil Engineering are eligible for admission.

Duration of the course is one year. Besides these, PG Diploma in Design and Construction of Concrete Structures; Water Resource Development and Management; Quality Surveying and Valuation are also conducted for civil engineering graduates. The National Institute of Construction Management and Research School of Distance Education, Pune - 411 045, conducts graduate diploma/ certificate courses in construction management in the distance education mode. The Institution of Engineers (India) provides facilities to secure AMIE, which is equivalent a engineering degree. In order to obtain AMIE, one should have to pass section `A' and section `B' examinations. Those who have passed Plus Two with physics, chemistry and mathematics as subject with 45 percent marks are eligible to register for the examination. Diploma holders in engineering are also eligible to register in the Diploma stream of the AMIE Examination,
