Well, according to me, IrfanView is the best image/graphic viewer. And it was developed by a student- Irfan. It doesn't occupy much space, but all the basic image editing and image viewing can be done through this. You can probably give this a trial and see for yourself what I mean.
Here are some of its features that I've used and liked.
* Many supported file formats

* Thumbnail/preview option
* Slideshow
* Batch conversion (with image processing)
* Multimedia player
* Print option
* Change color depth
* Cut/crop
* Effects (Sharpen, Blur, Adobe 8BF, Filter Factory, Filters Unlimited, etc.)
* Capturing
* Lossless JPG rotation
* Only one EXE-File, no DLLs, no Shareware messages like "I Agree" or "Evaluation expired"
