Admission for 5 years integrated courses in Anna University

ANNA UNIVERSITY CHENNAI, announced the integraded 5 years courses.

Admission to Five Year Integrated Degree Programme 2008 - 2009

a) M.Sc Computer Science / M.Sc Information Technology &
b) M.Sc Electronic Media (Self-Supporting)


Five year Integrated Programmes leading to (1) M.Sc Computer Science / M.Sc Information Technology
(2) M.Sc Electronic Media Degree are offered at the University Departments of Anna University Chennai (College of Engineering, Guindy Campus) Chennai - 600 025 under Self-Supporting Scheme.

Ten Semesters (Five Academic Years)

a) M.Sc. Computer Science / M.Sc Inforrmation Technology
A pass in the HSC (Academic), in the first appearance itself, with Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry as three of the
four subjects of study prescribed under Part - III or its equivalent with a minimum average mark of 55% for OC, 50%
for BC, BC Christian, BC Muslim, 45% for MBC & DNC and a mere pass for SC/ST category. The average marks
refer to the average mark of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
b) M.Sc Electronic Media
Candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of 10+2 Curriculum of any group under
Part - III or any other Examination of any University (or) authority accepted by the Syndicate of the Anna University
Chennai, as equivalent there to.

4) AGE :
The Candidate should not have completed 21 years of age as on 01.07.2008 for the above two Programmes.
For Candidates belonging to SC/ST the age is relaxable by 3 years.
Candidates appeared / appearing for the Qualifying Examination in March / April 2008 may also apply for Admission.

Candidates desirous to applying for
(1) M.Sc Computer Science / M.Sc. Information Technology and
(2) M.Sc. Electronic Media should submit separate application for each programme.


a) Candidates who have studied 5 years continuously (from VIII standard onwards) in Tamil Nadu will be considered
as Tamil Nadu candidates. Candidates who are Native of Tamil Nadu but have studied any one or more of VIII/IX
/X / XI / XII standard outside Tamil Nadu have to produce a Nativity Certificate from the Tahsildar of their Native
Taluk / District of Tamil Nadu for considering them as Tamil Nadu Candidate.
b) Seats are filled as per the reservation norms prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu.


The selection of Candidates will be based on the aggregate marks obtained in the prescribed subjects Mathematics,
Physics and Chemistry in the qualifying examination.
The marks in these subjects will be reduced to a base of 300(Mathematics - 100; Physics - 100; Chemistry - 100)
Ranking of the candidates will be done based on the aggregate marks to a maximum of 300.
In cases where more than one candidate have got the same mark in the common merit list the inter-se merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below:
(1) Percentage of marks in Mathematics
(2) Percentage of marks in Physics
(3) Percentage of marks in the fourth optional subject and
(4) Date of birth.

The selection of candidates will be based on the precentage of marks obtained in the subjects under Part III (Except Part I - Language and Part II - English)
Ranking will be done based on the percentage of average marks obtained in the subjects under Part - III (Except Part I - Language and Part II - English)
In cases where more than one candidate have got the same mark in the common merit list the inter-se merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below:
(a) Percentage of overall total marks and
(b) Date of Birth.

1) M.Sc. (Computer Science / Information Technology)
2) M.Sc (Electronic Media)

i) Candidates will be selected and admitted through counselling. More number of candidates than the actual seats available will be called for counselling. The required number of candidates alone will be offered admission depending upon the seats available and based on merit of the candidates who have attended the
counselling.Candidates who do not attend the counselling on the prescribed date and time, he / she cannot claim any right for admission at a later date.Call letters for counselling will be sent to individuals through post.

c) Community reservation for BC, BC Christian, BC Muslim and MBC&DNC, SC/ST categories are applicable
to Tamil Nadu candidates only. Other State candidates will be clasified under “OTHERS” category only.

d) Candidate belongs to BC, BC Christian, BC Muslim and MBC & DNC, SC / ST of Tamil Nadu should producePermanent Community Certificate in the Card Format obtained from the competent authority. In the case of ST candidates, community certificate should be obtained from the Revenue Divisional Officer / Sub-
Collector of the District concerned and P.A.(General) to the Collector of Chennai District. (The certificates issued to ST candidates by Tahsildars upto 11.11.1989 is valid). Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu alone will be considered for communal reservation.

e) For Communities linked with District (See Annexure - I) the candidate should obtain their Community
Certificate in the respective districts, otherwise the Community Certificate obtained from other than the respective District will not be considered and treated as OC.
f) Candidate who have not enclosed the copy of the Permanent Community Certificate will be considered under O.C. category only.
g) Hostel accommodation is NOT GUARANTEED.
h) Special reservation for Physically Challenged candidates will be followed as per Government norms.

Along with the Completed Application Form :
1. Coding sheet (do not pin / punch or staple)
2. Xth Mark Sheet (Attested Xerox Copy)
3. Qualifying Examination Marks Sheet XII or H.Sc. (Attested Xerox copy)
4. Transfer Certificate (Attested Xerox copy)
5. Permanent Community Certificate Card (Attested Xerox copy) (if applicable).
6. Nativity certificate (if applicable)
7. District Medical Officer Certificate for Physically Challenged (Xerox copy) (if applicable)
8. Self addressed/stamped Acknowledgement card
9. Self-addressed/stamped envelop for Councelling call letter.

Note: Candidates who have not submitted attested copy of Permanent Community Certificate will be considered under ‘Open Competition’ category. No further correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

1. Fill up the application form carefully.
2. Transfer the relevant entries form the application to the coding sheet.
3. Write your correct and complete address in the space provided. Change of address cannot be entertained. If you change your address, make arrangements to get the letters redirected to your new address.
4. Write the required particulars clearly and legibly in balpoint pen. Encircle the appropriate code number whenever necessary.
5. No original certificates are to be attached with the application. Xerox copies of any Certificates should be enclosed.
6. The candidate should ensure that the statements made and the information furnished in his/her Applications, as also the enclosures submitted by him/her are true. Should it, however be found that any information furnished
therein is untrue in material particulars, then
i) He/She will forfeit admission no matter whatever be the course he/she may be at that time;
ii) Legal action will be instituted against him/her.
7. Arrange the application and enclosures in the order specified below and bunch them together.
i) Application
ii) Required certificates (Xeroxed and attested copies)
iii) Coding sheet (do not punch or staple)
iv) Self addressed/stamped Acknowledgement card
v) Self-addressed/stamped envelop for Councelling call letter.
8. completed application should reach the Director (Admissions), Anna University Chennai, Chennai - 25 on or before 16.06.2008.

Note :
i) The University is not responsible for any postal delay/loss in Transit.
ii) Cost of application once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
ii) The counselling session will be arranged at the Anna University Chennai, Chennai-25, Candidates should attend counselling session at their own cost with all Original Certificates, if admission is offered, must pay the fees
immediately. If a candidate has deposited all the certificates in an institution in which he/she has already been admitted, a letter from the Head of the Institution should be brought to that effect. In that case only, attested copies of certificates may be considered for verification. Admission will be given when all original certificates are produced.
