The objective of the symposium is to review the status of water harvesting technologies and policies in the drylands world-wide and in India to develop a holistic approach and multi-pronged strategies for water harvesting and usher sustainable development in the drylands.
Stakeholders
The three day event will address ways and means to bring green revolution to the rainfed areas and the drylands. The Symposium is designed to bring all stakeholders together to focus on various dimensions of water harvesting and examine how water harvesting catalyses agricultural production and sustainable livelihoods in the rainfed areas. Participants include scientists, engineers, policy and decision makers and the civil society from universities, research institutions, field officers, private companies, national and state governments, NGOs and others concerned with water harvesting, watershed management and sustainable agricultural development of rainfed areas.

The objective of the symposium will be achieved through logical exploration, deliberation and discussion on a set of inter-linked themes.
Theme 1: Water Harvesting at Farm level - In-situ water harvesting technologies involving engineering, and soil, crop and vegetation management measures. Theme 2: Water Harvesting at Micro-watershed Level - Runoff management, groundwater recharge, and application of remote sensing, GIS and other advanced technologies. Theme 3: Enhancing Water Productivity in Rainfed Areas and the Drylands: Improving productivity of the harvested water, including irrigation technologies, crop management, moisture conservation, cropping systems, modeling, etc. Theme 4: Policies, Institutions, and Socio-economic Aspects - Creating an enabling environment to promote water harvesting. Theme 5 - Role of Research, Extension and Education – Technological innovation, capacity building and making technologies accessible to dryland farmers.
Poster Papers

Parallel Events
The organizers will create venues for parallel events such as scientific meetings, demonstration stalls for cutting-edge technologies and “information kiosks” for drylands related themes. A selected number of international and national institutions and the private sector will be invited based on the evaluation of the expression of their interest to disseminate their on-going programmes in the area of sustainable water management in general, and water conservation in the drylands and water harvesting in particular
