Inviting applications for the faculty positions in “Business Ethics and Communication” Group, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta
The Business Ethics and Communication Group focuses on two distinct areas: a) Human Values, Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, and b) Managerial Communication that includes written and oral communication and foreign languages
In the following paragraphs we give brief details of these two academic areas and the qualifications and profile of potential faculty for the Group.
Business Ethics: This area has been created to initiate teaching, research, and training and offer consultancy on Human Values and Ethics in Management. It tries to achieve an authentic synthesis of Western and Eastern (especially Indian) approaches to management by creating frameworks of knowledge and methods of application of the same in the context of existing management concepts and practices.
We are looking for candidates holding a doctoral degree from a university of repute (or equivalent Fellow from any of the IIMs) and with a proven record of academic excellence. They must necessarily have relevant teaching and corporate training experience as well as research output in the areas of Human Values and Indian Ethos in Management, Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility. A sustained track record of superior quality publications in the form of books and/or articles in refereed Indian and international journals in the above areas along with a high level of proficiency in written and oral communication will be mandatory for the eligible applicants.
Communication: In the contemporary business environment it has become essential for managers and leaders to be able to communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, superiors, peers and subordinates etc. in different organizational situations.
The objectives of this area are to help sharpen the analytical skills of students in managerial decision making and equip them with real world communication concepts and skills. This area specifically focuses on improving written communication skills and helps develop proficiency in understanding dynamic communication in organizations with special emphasis on oral and non verbal communication. It also conducts courses in foreign languages and imparts knowledge and skills related to managing intercultural communication. Courses offered by the area include courses on written analysis and communication, oral communication, managerial communication and foreign languages. Another important focus of the area is on courses and programmes on communication for management teachers and researchers.
Applications are invited from candidates with relevant experience and a PhD in the following areas: linguistics and English literature; mass communication, media and corporate communication, journalism. Persons with a doctorate degree in management or related social science areas with proven interest and expertise in the field of communication in either an academic setting or an organization may also apply.
WHO CAN APPLY Doctorate degree in an appropriate discipline, excellent academic record throughout and a minimum of ten, eight and three years of experience in teaching/research/industry in relevant areas for Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, respectively. These requirements may be relaxed for outstanding candidates including outstanding fresh Ph.D.s. Those with strong research records would be given preference.
Young persons are particularly encouraged to apply. Persons who have not yet obtained their Ph.D.s, but will be completing their theses shortly, are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates interested in Visiting Faculty positions may also apply. Visiting positions carry consolidated emoluments comparable to those for permanent positions.
Faculty members of the Institute are expected to participate in all institutional activities including Teaching, Research, Training and Consultancy.
Salary and other benefits are admissible as per Government of India rules. Medical benefits are available as per Institute rules. Housing may be provided on campus.
