International Diploma in Guidance and Counselling through Distance/Online Mode in Collaboration with COL - Development of a LMS NCERT proposes to launch a diploma course in Guidance and Counselling through Distance/Online Mode. A learning management system (LMS) needs to be developed for the above course with gross features such as: Provision for filling up and submission of the admission form online. Maintain record of enrolled trainees Posting of course units, program guide, practicum handbook, audio video material online. Brief information about the course; ii. Announcement for the course; iii. Facility for filling up and submission of the admission form online. Ensuring completion of details required in the form before enabling downloading; iv. Announcement of selected candidates. With respect of transaction of the course it will help (access only to enrolled trainees with valid password) : i. Posting the offer of admission of the selected candidates alongwith student identify card. ii. To maintain record of the admitted trainees. iii. To provide the status of each trainee pertaining to assignments submitted and the phases of the course completed. iv. To post the course content i.e. 62 course units, Programme Guide Practical handbook, and Audio/video material (for this it is visualized that a 2 GB server space will be required) v. In asynchronous transaction of the course, which will enable the trainees to view the units of the 13 modules online, post their queries and get reply to their queries. vi. Limited synchronous transaction in the form of text chat, audio chat, video chat etc. vii. The trainees to receive and submit their assignments online and get the feedback about their assignments online. Functions of an LMS would include : Registering Trainees Assigning Trainees a roll no. Defining Courses Defining various units for the course Exploring Units and Exercises Creating a Tutors pool Trainer and Participant forums Monitoring the progress of the Trainees Trainee Portfolio Management It will include three common kinds of modules : the instructor module, the trainee or learner module, the course developer module. The learner module – This module gives the trainee access to assigned lessons, with corresponding activities and objectives of the lesson. The module should also have provisions for submitting assignments. It is through the learner module that the trainee interacts with the tutor and coordinator. The module also gives the trainee access to assessments and general feedback. View units available Audio chat Video chat Text chat Document sharing File exchange The tutor module : This module should let the tutor access student assignments and reports. The tutor can select learning modules, view and grade assignments, post notices to trainees or interact with trainees during all the there phases of the course i.e. DMP, face-to-face and internship Notify a schedule Modify a schedule Add/remove participants Delegate assignments, activities and projects Monitor attendance The coordinator module – This module should allow the learning administrator to coordinate course dates, manage and register new students, assign learners to courses, assign to learners and courses. This coordinator module can also manage and monitor trainee performance and progress reports. Create trainee Create tutors Manage trainee and tutors The course coordinator is primarily responsible for the course structure and course content. The coordinator can add or delete lessons from a course, add supporting content as research links and create questions to assess learners.
