Language is today intricately woven with technology in the new form of media
including computer-based multimedia, internet and the other digital content in
general. English has an advantageous position in this co-existence whereas
local languages need to be further enabled to reach a similar position. Aspects
such as language and culture must be localized so that products and services
appear to be specifically developed for a local market. The localization industry
addresses these essential needs in one of the fastest growing sectors in high
technology. It is in this context that the need for manpower in language technology
arises and the PGDLT course initiated by C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram is aimed
at meeting the same. The Post Graduate Diploma in Language Technology
(PGDLT) is aimed at developing competent manpower in the specialized field of
Language Technology and Localization under the “Specialized Manpower
Development in Localization” programme of the Department of Information
Technology, Government of India, to meet the growing demand of trained
personnel in this field. This Programme prepares the candidates for a career in
Language Technology with focus on Localization
