Bio Informatics
This is a two year, four semester course with a focus on the applications of advanced computational techniques to solve problems in biotechnology. It is an interdisciplinary course which uses the latest advances in biotechnology along with the tools and techniques of mathematics, statistics and computer science.
The course structure is as follows:
Semester 1
General Bioinformatics, fundamentals of Mathematics and Statistics, Basic Genetics and fundamentals of Biocomputing is introduced.
Semester 2
Biophysics, Enzymology, general Microbiology and Bio-Informatic Software and programming is introduced.
Semester 3
Here the students get introduced to Metabolism, Bioenergetics, Systematic Bacteriology and Virology, Biological database management and Molecular genetics.
Semester 4
Immunology, Genetic engineering, Computational Biology, Molecular modeling and computer aided drug designing are the key subject areas in this.
Practicals are run in every semester along to classroom sessions.
Eligibility
A basic degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Zoology, Biotechnology, Botany/Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, BCA, Electronics, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics or Statistics with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks, from a recognized university.
Admission Procedure
Admission is available in both merit and management quota seats as per the regulations of MG University and prevailing norms of the government.
