DIRECTORATE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION EDUCATION SECTION TWOYEAR BACHELOR DEGREE FOR INSERVICE TEACHERS IN URDU MEDIUM (NCTE Recognised Course) BACKGROUND OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE COURSE DETAILS FACULTY / STAFF WITH PHOTOGRAPHS FACILITIES LIBRARY PROGRAMME CENTRES ADDRESS OF CORRESPONDENCE BACKGROUND: MANUU has launched a twoyear degree programme Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in the year 2005 as a joint degree in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). From the year 200708 onwards this programme will be offered by Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) independently. The necessary approval has been obtained from National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) and Distance Education Council (DEC) in this regard. OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE Programme Title: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Programme Duration: 24 months excluding time taken for admission Number of seats sanctioned : 500 Eligibility and Admission Criteria: Inservice teachers with i. Bachelor's degree from any recognized University or higher degree, ii. Two years fulltime regular teaching experience in Primary, Secondary, Higher / Senior Secondary School Government recognized by the Central or State Government or a Union territory. Admission shall be on the basis of the score obtained in the Entrance Test that University shall conduct in identified programme centres across the country. The final admission shall be subject to their merit in entrance exam under the jurisdiction of the Regional Centre is attached. Reservation Policy: The University shall provide reservation as per Government of India rules. Course Fee: Application cum Prospectus including the entrance exam fee is Rs. 500/Course fee for twoyears including examination fee is Rs. 13,200/Medium: Urdu Objectives of the B.Ed. Programme: To develop in studentteacher: Competence to teach the subject(s) of their specialisation on the basis of the accepted principles of learning and teaching; Skill, Understanding, Interests and attitudes which would enable them to foster allround growth and development of their students; Skill in identifying, selecting, innovating and organising learning experiences for teaching school subjects; Understanding of psychological principles of growth and development, individual differences and cognitive, psychomotor and attitudinal learning; Skills in guiding their students in order to enable them to solve their personal as well as academic problems; Understanding of the role of home, school and community in shaping the personality of the child, and help to develop an amicable homeschool relationship for mutual benefit; Understanding of the role of school in a changing society; and Ability to undertake investigatory projects and action research to improve the school system. Instructional System The B.Ed. Programme delivery system includes the multimedia approach, i.e., selfinstructional print material, audio/video components, assignments, counselling sessions and practical work in school and workshops. Printed Material: The print materials are the selfinstructional materials for both theory and practical components of the programme. It is supplied to the students in the form of blocks. Each block contains 35 units. The University sends study material and assignment to the students by registered post. Audio and Video Programmes: The audio and video programmes are supplementary, meant for clarification and enhancement of understanding. These are used during counselling and workshop sessions at the Programme Centre. Assignment: Assignments are an integral and compulsory components of the instructional system. There are three tutormarked assignments for each theory course. Students will have to work on at least two theory assignments per course and submit it to the Programme Centre in accordance with the submission schedule provided. Counselling: Generally the counselling sessions will be held at the Programme Centres during the weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) or during long holidays. Within the general schedule of the programme the Programme Incharge conducts these sessions. The counselling sessions will include clarifications required in the print material and audio/video programmes through active interaction with students. Teleconference: It is proposed to have an interactive teleconference in the B.Ed. programme after commencement of Media Centre of the University. Conduct of Practicals: Practicals will be held in the schools and teacher training colleges / institutions identified as Programme Centres. The practical courses consists of schoolbased, workshopbased practicals, practical oriented assignments and practice teaching. These activities will be conducted in the schools. Besides, two practical workshops of 24 days duration, i.e., 12 days each spreading over 2 years, with intensive facetoface interaction to develop skills and competencies will also be organised at the Programme Centre or at any suitable place. The student teacher will have to do practical work and various activities required for the development of teaching skills and competencies in the school under the guidance of the supervisor and principals/headmaster after taking due permission from the school concerned. Overall a student is expected to go through approximately 300 hours of contact time. In the courses of Groups A, B and C there shall be one credit weightage devoted to Practical aspects. SchoolBased Practical Work: These works include planning, organising and conduct of activities like Maintenance of registers and records, Addressing the School Assembly, Conduct of Sociometric test etc., under the guidance of authenticated Mentor . WorkshopBased Practical Activities: A 12days compulsory workshop will be held in each year. The studentteacher is expected to perform various activities during this workshop. Few of the activities include Unit Planning, Microteaching, Demonstration lessons, Seminars on various educational issues etc. Practice Teaching: Practice teaching and final lessons will be done in respective methodologies. A studentteacher has to give 15 practice teaching lessons (under the supervision of mentor in school) and 5 final lessons (under the supervision of teachereducator) in each methodology. This component deals with development of skills and competencies required by an effective teacher. A Studentteacher will get ample opportunities to apply in practice, the knowledge gained in theory. Evaluation: The system of evaluation, both for theory and practical work, is as follows: Theory: For theory courses, evaluation comprises three aspects: a. SelfEvaluation exercises within each unit of study (noncredit). b. Continuous evaluation in the form of periodic compulsory assignments. This carries a weightage of 30% for each of course. The score of the two best qualification assignments out of the three along with one compulsory Practical assignment for each course will be considered for declaring the students successful in that course. c. The termend examination has a weightage of 70% of the total for each course. Termend examinations will be held in December every year. Any change in this will be intimated to the studentteachers. The students are specifically instructed to send Examination Forms to Controller of Examination only and to no other place. Practical: For Practical courses, evaluation comprises three aspects: a) Continuous evaluation of schoolbased activities and practice teaching. b) Evaluation of performance in practical workshops. c) Evaluation of practice teaching. Admissions for MANUUB.Ed. are made strictly on the basis of merit. Only those candidates who satisfythe eligibility criteria fixed by the University will be admitted. COURSE DETAILS (PROGRAMME COMPONENTS): The entire B.Ed. Programme of two year is of 48 Credits. One Credit is considerd as 30 study hours of a student. This includes reading assignment writing, attending counselling classes and viewing or hearing audiovideo programmes.
