Renewable Energy Asia 2008
Introduction and Objectives:
In the present era of high energy consumption in every sphere of life, renewable energy sources are emerging as alternatives to conventional fuels for energy security, mitigating green house gas emission and climate change. In Asian region, renewables are abundantly available and can provide energy security to most of its areas. Solar, biomass, wind, biogas etc therefore are better choice and have a very promising future in Asia due to the tropical location and availability. In South and East Asia, many countries are energy importers, and also several institutes are working on R&D of renewable energy.
In view of the above, there is both need and possibilities to strengthen renewable energy programme in an effective manner in Asia and to make a new framework for the future. In this context, “Renewable Energy Asia 2008 – An International Conference & 4th SEE Forum Meeting” is being organized at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi during 11-13 December, 2008 with the following objectives:
1. State of the art Renewable energy technologies in Asian region 2. Mitigation of green house gas emission and global climatic change 3. Recent advances in solar, biomass, biogas, wind and other renewable energy technologies 4. Social and economical aspects of renewable energy 5. Mutual cooperation among Asian countries in the area of renewable energy 6. Renewable energy policy, planning and education

Sustainable Energy and Environment Forum
About SEE Forum:
The SEE Forum is Asia-Pacific Academic Network for sustainable energy and environment (SEE) that brings forward the dialogue on global issues of common concern. It was formed through the cooperation of Kyoto University, the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE, Thailand), and ASEAN University Network (AUN); consists of 21 universities in ASEAN 10 countries, on 22 November 2006. The overall goal of the SEE Forum is to promote “New Energy Initiatives” through the cooperation in research, education, and policy projects and to seek academic and science and technological cooperation that will contribute to solving the global climate change and energy security issues.
SEE Forum brings forward the dialogue on global climate and energy security issues of common concern. In 2006 at the 2nd Sustainable Energy and Environment Conference in Bangkok, delegates from 8 Asia-Pacific counties signed the SEE 2006 Expression of Intent on New Energy Initiative. This intent calls for the networking or “SEE Forum” among Asian academic and science and technological communities in an effort to contribute to the New Energy Initiative.
This forum recognized that the technical, social, economic, and environmental challenges of global warming as well as the New Energy Initiative are the most principal issues for sustainable development and the future of our planet. Also it concerned that the dramatic increase in the demand for new energy resources and services in many economies, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, where rapid economic growth in recent years, and a pressing need for these economies to accelerate the development of and the transition to more efficient and renewable energy systems.
In relation to the above concerns, it recognized also that not only development and innovative application of relevant technologies, but also robust policies, and sound regulatory and financing frameworks that will attract investors while ensuring reliable and affordable new energy services to consumers.
It acknowledged that the nature of global warming calls for the widest possible cooperation and participation in an effective and appropriate international response, and recognizing SEE partners have a crucial role in shaping and forging long-term policies as well as immediate actions for New Energy Initiative.
The overall goal of the SEE forum is to promote “New Energy Initiatives” and to seek academic, scientific and technological cooperation that will contribute to solving the global climate and energy security issues. It is vividly believed that, having a strong cooperation among SEE forum member countries, through education in research policy and technology and sharing of experience will have a vital impact on paving the way to achieve the goal of “New Energy Initiatives”.
Following the success of the third Sustainable Energy and environment forum (3rd SEE forum) held in Pattaya, Thailand, SEE forum organizers are pleased to announce the holding of the 4th SEE forum on 11-13 December 2008 in New Delhi, India.
It is therefore, our great pleasure to invite you to be a member of the SEE forum network officially and participate in the above SEE forum meeting and International Conference. We are confident that your participation and contribution in this International Conference will bring a sound effect towards attaining the entire frame work of the SEE forum.
In this meeting, the focus will be on:
1. Educational issues 2. Research issues 3. Policy issues and 4. Financial issues relating to NEW ENERGY INITIATIVES.
