Photonics-2008 is the ninth in the series of biennial international conference in the general area of Photonics held in India since 1992. It provides a forum for interaction and exchange of ideas among scientists, engineers, researchers, and users actively engaged in the area of Photonics. Inauguration would be held at the Convocation Hall of IIT Delhi on the evening of December 14 while main conference (December 15-17, 2008) would be held at the Habitat World Convention Center. On December 13-14, tutorial courses on some of the conference topics would be held at IIT Delhi. A technical exhibition would be also organized concurrently with the conference. In addition a techno-commercial evening session would be organized on day 2 of the conference in which manufacturers and service providers related to Optical Telecommunication and Photonics in general could make presentations of their company profile and advertise at a nominal fee for the time and the venue.
Scope of Conference
The conference would offer a large number of invited review talks. Researchers are most welcome and encouraged to submit contributory papers covering original research related to topics of interest for the conference listed below. However, conference organizers would be willing to consider submission of papers on any area related to Photonics. The conference would broadly cover the following topics:
Biophotonics Fiber amplifiers and fiber lasers Fiber Optic Components and Devices Fiber Optic Sensors and Instrumentation Guided Wave Nonlinear and Quantum Optics Integrated Optics and Optoelectronic Devices Microwave Photonics Nanophotonics and Plasmonics Optical Fibers including special and microstructured fibers Optical Sources, Detectors and related devices Optical Computing and Optical Signal Processing Photonic Networks, Switching, Interconnects, and Access Theory, Modelling and Simulation of Photonic Components and Devices

Call for papers with Submissions
Registration and submission for Technical Sessions is open to all members of the scientific and technical community. It is incumbent on the authors to obtain appropriate approval to present their work to this international forum. All submitted summaries would undergo peer-review to be conducted by members of the Technical Committee.
Authors engaged in any of the conference topics (see below) are encouraged to submit 1-page summary by email either as a word.doc file or as a pdf file to either of the following email IDs: conference.photonics@gmail.com or phot2008@physics.iitd.ac.in
The 1-page summary must include
50-word Abstract Text of the summary including figures, tables, references, etc. Topic Code (see the list below) Presentation Preference
The topic code to be specified is any one from the following:
Topics - Code Biophotonics - BIO Fiber amplifiers and fiber lasers - FAL Fiber Optic Components and Devices - FCD Fiber Optic Sensors and Instrumentation - SEN Guided Wave Nonlinear and Quantum Optics - NQO Integrated Optics and Optoelectronic Devices - IOE Microwave Photonics - MWP Nanophotonics and Plasmonics - NAN Optical Fibers including special and microstructured fibers - OFM Optical Sources, Detectors and related devices - SDD Optical Computing and Optical Signal Processing - CSP Photonic Networks, Switching, Interconnects, and Access - NET Theory, Modelling and Simulation of Photonic Components and Devices - THM Other Topics in the general area pf the conference - OTH Instruction to authors:
Adherence to the instructions for preparation of the summary on the same page is mandatory.
50-word Abstract should summarize the content of the contribution. Text of contribution should be a summary of the work in sufficient detail for the review process. The summary must include all text, title, authors, equations, drawings, tables, photographs, drawings, figures, and references. Topic Codes and Presentation Preference must be indicated in the designated area (the header) on the template. Formatting instructions for preparation of the summary are as follows:
The submission should be formatted single-spaced and sized for A4 paper (21cm 29.7cm) with 2.5cm margins on all sides of the page. All text, title, authors, addresses, abstract, references, tables, figures, and photographs should fit on one page. The title should be written in 12 pt bold capital letters and centered at the top of the first page. The font should be "Times New Roman" throughout. The authors' names, complete organizational affiliations, mailing addresses, and E-mail addresses should be in 11 pt font size, one line (11pt) below the title. The abstract of about 50 words should be placed one line (11pt) below the last E-mail address and should be set in 10 pt font. The text of the abstract should follow "Abstract:" (in bold) in the same line. The main text should start two lines below the abstract and be written in a two-column format with 8 mm spacing between columns using 10 pt fonts. Indent each paragraph by 3.5mm. Each major section should begin with a heading in bold capital letters centered within a column and numbered using Arabic numerals except for ACKNOWLEDGEMENT and REFERENCES. Take a one-line blank before the section heading line. The subsection heading should be left justified in bold letters capitalizing the first letter of each major word and numbered using Arabic numerals (2.1, 2.2, ..).
Equations should be centered in the column and numbered sequentially. Place the equation number to the right of the equation with right justification within its column. When referring to an equation, use the number within parenthesis as (1). The submissions must be in a black and white including figures and photographs. The authors are recommended not to use color traces in graphical data or color photographs. Place figure and photograph captions directly below each figure and photograph. The captions numbered sequentially using Arabic numerals should be centered. Place table captions just above each table. The captions numbered sequentially using Arabic numerals should be centered.
When quoting a reference in the text, place the reference numbers within square brackets. The reference list is placed in the last section. The references should be listed in the order cited as shown in the examples [1]-[4] below.
An acknowledgment can be added as an un-numbered section before the reference section.
The Topic and the Presentation Preference (Oral/Poster) should be included at top left and right, respectively, one line above the title page (within the 2.5 cm top margin).
