Preparatory SERC School in Theoretical High Energy Physics
September 23 – October 20, 2008
SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Delhi
Applications are invited from graduate students/teachers working for their Ph.D. degrees in
Theoretical High Energy Physics. Students in their final year of M.Sc. with exceptionally
good academic record and a strong motivation for research may also apply. Selected
participants will be paid round trip travel expenses by train (AC 3T/I Class), and provided
with accommodation and food.
Courses to be offered in the Preparatory school
Quantum Field Theory (12 Lectures) Palash Pal , SINP, Kolkata
Particle Physics & Standard Model (12 Lectures) Anindya Datta, Univ. of Calcutta, Kolkata
Group Theory (6 Lectures) Amitabha Mukherjee, Univ. of Delhi, Delhi
Statistical Methods in Physics (6 Lectures) Satyaki Bhattacharya, Univ. of Delhi, Delhi
GTR and Cosmology (12 Lectures) To be Announced
Each course will by supplemented by tutorial sessions. Participants are expected to attend all
the five courses and actively participate in all tutorial sessions.
Prerequisites for the Preparatory School: Special Theory of Relativity, Relativistic Kinematics,
4-Vector Notation, Relativistic Quantum Mechanics.

The Main School will be held from March 2 – 21, 2009 at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. The
Following advanced courses (each of 9 lectures) will be offered during the school :
Heavy Ion Physics: LHC & RHIC String Theory
Interface between Cosmology & Particle Physics Brane World Models

The First Announcement and Registration form for the Preparatory SERC School may
be downloaded from the official website http://sgtbkhalsa.du.ac.in/serc.htm and completely
filled registration form should be sent preferably by email or by ordinary mail on or before
June 10, 2008. Applicants are also required to arrange for a letter of reference by their
supervisor or another referee, sent directly to the organizers of the school in the prescribed
format available at the website.
