About the Institution
Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science(SLCS) is run by Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy Foundation (SLF). SLF is a charitable trust which was started in the year 1989 to promote career-oriented education on a non-profit motive basis. The college is situated on the Madurai - Aruppukottai road, within 6 kms distance from Madurai Airport and 16 kms from Madurai Railway Station. Madurai is a place of historical importance, 480 kms south of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, which housed the Tamil Sangam in 16th Century and also has the most popular temple of the Goddess Shri Meenakshi, the guarding deity of the city

Knowledge about the Banking and Insurance is provided by specific projects.
The syllabus is unique, friendly and more focused towards Banking and Insurance Industry. The Course is designed in such a way that the students should be well placed in Banking and Insurance Industry. Additional knowledge about internet is also the special area in this course.
Eligibility for B.com (Banking and Insurance):
Pass in + 2 with Commerce / Accountancy / Insurance / Banking / Computer Science
Department of Hotel Management and Catering Science:
B Sc (Hotel Management & Catering Science) - 3 Years
PG Diploma in Bakery Science & Management - 1 Year
Certificate Course in Food Production- 1 Year (syllabus yet to be approved by the academic council of the college)
Certificate Course in Bakery and Confectionery - 1 Year (syllabus yet to be approved by the academic council of the college)
Methodology
The Medium of Instruction is English.
A compulsory 9 months Industrial Training in the Hotel Industry in a specific area is given.
The Autonomous Syllabi are unique and more focused toward specific areas of the hotel industry. They are under semester pattern and examinations. The courses are designed in such a way that the students would be able to take the Industrial training programme without any hindrance to their learning the theory contents of the course at the college.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
B.Sc.(HM & CS) degree - A Pass in +2 level ( 12th standard) or its equivalent examination.
P.G . Diploma Courses - A Pass in a degree course of any discipline.
Certificate Courses - A Pass in 10th standard or its equivalent examination.
AGE LIMIT
The maximum age limit for admission for B.Sc., (HM & CS) is 25 years as on 1st July of the year, to be relaxed in the case of SC/ST candidates up to 28 years.
For the P.G. Diploma and Certificate programmes, there is no upper age limit

The College opens for I year UG & PG Classes on 1st July 2008.
Admissions are going on. Applications are sold for all the courses for the academic year 2008 - 2009. Last date for sending the filled up applications is 30th June 2008
