Note: 1. A candidate will be considered eligible for admission to the BIHBM course, if he/she has passed the qualifying examination on the date and time of counseling. 2. A list of Fake/Bogus Boards/Institutions/Universities is given at Appendix C. A candidate, who has passed any examination from such boards, shall not be eligible for admission. INTAKE: Total of Number of Seats = 100 Distribution, Reservation of seats: (A) Distribution of seats The seats shall be distributed as under: 1) All India category including Haryana 15% 2) Bonafide Residents of Haryana 85% (50 % of the seats earmarked for Bonafide Residents of Haryana will be reserved for the Categories as mentioned at (B) below, as per State Government policy and remaining 50 % seats will be filled from among Haryana general category) (B) RESERVATION OF SEATS: The seats shall be reserved for the categories as under i) Scheduled Castes : 20 % ii) Backward Classes of Haryana : 27% (16 % for Block-A) (except Socially advanced persons/ (11 % for Block-B ) Sections (creamy layer)) iii) Physically Handicapped : 3 % (1% Blind or low vision, 1% Hearing impairment, 1% Locomotor disability or cerebral palsy) If the seats reserved for Physically Handicapped remaining vacant due to non-availability of suitable handicapped candidates, it may be offered to ex-servicemen and their wards (1%) and dependents of freedom fighters (1%). (iv) 3% horizontal reservation will be given to Ex-servicemen / Freedom Fighters and their dependents by providing reservation within reservation of 1% of General category, 1% out of Scheduled Castes and 1% from Backward Classes’ category. As far as block allocation in block A and block B of Backward Classes category is concerned, year wise rotational system will be adopted. For example, if block A of Backward Classes is given seat in the academic year 2008, the next block i.e. B block of category of Backward Classes will be given seat in the next academic year i.e. 2009 and so on. Note: under the above 3% horizontal reservation, seats will be allotted to ESM/DFF, where ever the number of seats in the respective category work out to be 0.5 or above. Important Notes: 1. The reservation of seats is as per the reservation policy of Haryana Govt. and is subject to any change / amendment made by the state Govt. from time to time. 2. If the reserved seat(s) of BC Block-A remain vacant, these will be filled up from BC Block-B and vice-versa. 3. The seats remaining vacant under various categories other that SC category shall be converted to General category only if on the day of final counseling no candidate belonging to reserved categories is available for admission. The vacant seats of SC categories will not be converted. 4. Candidates claiming reservation under Scheduled Caste will submit the certificate as per Annexure-II and Backward Class (Block ‘A’ & ‘B’) will submit the Certificate on the prescribed Performa as per Annexure-III. The BC candidates (Block A & B) for benefit of reservation shall also have to furnish an affidavit to the effect that he/she is not covered under the criteria of creamy layer as per Annexure IV. The said affidavit shall be furnished by both father and mother of the candidate. 5. Only the candidates having the permanent disability of not less than 40% (being otherwise fit for admission to the course) will be considered for admission as Physically Handicapped. Disability certificate should be issued of C.M.O. of the concerned District. However, the certificate shall be subject to verification by a medical board of the university constituted for the purpose and decision of the board shall be final. Physically Handicapped candidates belonging to Haryana are required to submit the certificate as per Annexure-V. 6. Children & Grand-Children of Freedom Fighters of Haryana are required to submit a certificate from the concerned Deputy Commissioner as per Annexure-VI. 7. Wards of Ex-Servicemen of Haryana are required to submit the certificate as per Annexure-VII 8. For the horizontal reservation, candidates of General, SC and BC categories will also have to furnish ESM /DFF certificate. 9. Under Physically Handicapped, Children & Grand-children of Freedom Fighters and Ex-Servicemen and their Wards Category, at least one candidate will be admitted even if the share is less than 0.5 seats. 10. All the eligible candidates whether from Haryana or from Reserved categories also compete for seats allocated under All India Category. 11. A candidate, who applies for reserved category or for both reserved and general categories will be considered first in general category. In case, he/she does not get a seat of his /her choice in general category, then he / she will be considered for reserved category as applicable. 12. Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from a Board / university in the state of Haryana will be deemed to be Haryana residents and will not be required to submit certificates of bonafide residents of Haryana. METHOD OF SELECTION & ADMISSION PROCEDURE Merit List: 1. Admission will be made purely on the basis of rank obtained in the Entrance Examination. 2. The rank will be assigned on the basis of total marks secured in the Entrance Examination. If there is a tie, it will be resolved on the basis of following criteria: a) First tie will be resolved on the basis of marks secured in paper “Reasoning” of the Entrance Examination. b) If tie still persists, then it will be resolved on the basis of marks secured in paper “English vocabulary and comprehensive” of the Entrance Examination. c) If tie still persists, then it will be resolved on the basis of date of birth i.e. senior in age will be given the preference. d) In case, tie still persists, then equal rank will be given and supernumerary seat will be created at the time of counseling, if need be. 3. This, however, shall be subject to fulfilling the eligibility conditions. Counseling Procedure: 1. Counseling for admission to BIHBM will be conducted in the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management K.U.Kurukshetra. 2. The candidates are required to present themselves, in the counseling hall strictly according to counseling schedule. 3. Candidates should remain present in the counseling hall and they will be called one by one on the basis of rank for counseling. 4. Any candidate, who fails to turn up for counseling at his/her turn, he/she will be considered for the remaining seats at the time he/she reports for counseling. 5. The candidates will have to be present with all the original certificates/documents before the Admission Committee for verification and the Admission Committee will check the eligibility and Application Form of the candidate. In case, the candidate is found ineligible or his/her Application Form is found incomplete in any respect, then his/her candidature will be cancelled. 6. When a candidate is found eligible and his/her Application Form is complete in all respect, only then, the Admission Committee will offer seat to the candidate 7. Then, the candidate will be required to choose a seat ON THE SPOT. Once the seat is chosen by the candidate, he/she will not be allowed to change the seat in any case. Selected candidates will have to deposit all the original certificates with the Admission Committee. 8. After that, the Admission Committee will issue an admission slip to the selected candidate. 9. After that, the candidate will be required to deposit his/her fee ON THE SPOT. In case, he/she fails to deposit the required amount of fee, then he/she will forfeit the claim to the seat. 10. A candidate, who is admitted may be allowed to collect original certificates from Admission Committee after due verification at the time of counseling by the authorities concerned. 11. The decision of the Competent Authority in all matters relating to the admission shall be final. LIST OF DOCUMENTS TO BE BROUGHT AT THE TIME OF COUNSELING All the candidates, who appear for counseling, must bring the following original Certificates/Documents/Testimonials with them on the day of counseling. Any candidate, who fails to produce any of the required Certificate / Document / Testimonial at the time of counseling, will forfeit his/her claim to admission and will not be considered for admission again till the final counseling: 1. Qualifying Examination.10+2/ Senior Secondary School Examination. 2. Matriculation/High School Certificate. 3. Character Certificate: (a) Regular Candidates: The candidates who passed their qualifying exam. from School as regular student are required to submit the Character Certificate as per Annexure-I. (b) Private Candidates: Candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination as private candidate should submit their Character Certificate, duly signed by a First Class Magistrate. 4. Resident Certificate, if applicable candidates, who have passed their qualifying examination from a University in the State of Haryana will be deemed to be Haryana residents and will not be required to submit certificates of bonafide residents of Haryana. 5. Scheduled Caste Certificate as per Annexure-II, if applicable. 6. Backward Class Certificate as per Annexure-III, if applicable and affidavit as per Annexure-IV. 7. Certificate in respect to Physically Handicapped Candidates as per Annexure-V, if applicable. 8. Certificate required to be furnished by the Children & Grand-Children of Freedom Fighters as per Annexure-VI, if applicable. 9. Certificate required to be furnished by the wards of Ex-Servicemen as per Annexure-VII. 10. Admit Card. Note: All original and two sets of attested photocopies of all applicable documents/ testimonials/certificates must be brought at the time of counseling. SCHEME OF ENTRANCE EXAMINATION & SYLLABUS (A) SCHEME OF ENTRANCE EXAMINATION: The selection of a candidate for admission to the course shall be made on the basis of merit list drawn from the score in the Entrance Examination subject to fulfilling other conditions. (i) Maximum marks : 180 (ii) There will be one Question Paper of three hours duration in four parts as under: Questions Marks Part-I Reasoning 45 45 Part-II English Vocabulary & Comprehension 45 45 Part-III General Knowledge 45 45 Part-IV Numerical Ability 45 45 (B) SYLLABUS : The Standard of Questions for the English Vocabulary and Comprehension and Numerical Ability will be that of 10th Standard as prescribed by the Board of School Education, Haryana. (C) QUESTION BOOKLET FOR ENTRANCE EXAMINATION: i) Candidates will be given a question booklet and answer sheet immediately after taking seat. They are advised to read and follow the instructions on front and back page of the Question booklet carefully. ii) There is a question booklet number and code (A or B or C or D) mentioned on the front page, which every candidate must carefully fill in the appropriate place on the answer-sheet. iii) Candidate must sign on the front page of the question booklet at the appropriate place marked for this purpose. iv) Candidates should open the question booklet when they are asked to do so by the Invigilator. v) Candidates may check that question booklet has 180 questions (Reasoning 45 questions, English Vocabulary & Comprehension 45 questions, Numerical Ability 45 questions and General Knowledge 45 questions). In case, any defect is found in the question booklet, the Invigilator may be requested to change the same immediately. vi) The question booklet and the answer sheet must be returned to the Invigilator before leaving the hall. (D) ANSWER SHEET FOR ENTRANCE EXAMINATION: i) Use good quality HB pencil / ballpoint pen strictly as directed on the answer sheet. ii) Do not fold or put any stray mark, nor do any rough work on answer sheet. iii) Fill in the Roll No., question booklet number and booklet code printed on the front page of the question booklet in the proper blocks as directed on the answer-sheet. iv) Sign at the appropriate place on the answer-sheet with ballpoint pen. (E) RESULT/COUNSELING SCHEDULE / NOTIFICATION: The result of Entrance Examination will be sent to the candidates by Post. The same will also be displayed on the Notice Board of the Department. The result will also be available on the websites : http:/www.kukinfo.com and www.itdc.org. The Counseling will be held in the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra at the dates specified below: First Counseling (14.7.2008) For All India Category, Haryana General Category seats : 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.. (The students falling in the higher merit are also advised to be present at the above said date and time) For Reserved category seats : 2.00 p.m.. to 5.00 p.m. (all candidates of reserved categories) Second Counseling (16.7.2008), if seats remain vacant For All India Category, Haryana General Category seats : 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (all candidates) For Reserved category seats : 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. ( all candidates of reserved categories) Final Counseling (17.7.2008), if seats remain vacant : For All India Category, Haryana General Category seats : 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (all candidates ) For Reserved category seats : 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. (all candidates of reserved categories) Note: The reserved category candidates will be first considered for general category seats as per their rank in general merit list. The candidates are required to present themselves, in the Counseling Hall strictly according to the counseling schedule. They will be called for counseling one by one on the basis of rank obtained in the Entrance Examination of BIHBM-2008. The candidate, who has been offered seat once, will not be considered again. NO SEPERATE NOTIFICATION WILL BE ISSUED FOR THE SAME. However, candidates are advised to check website : http://www.kukinfo.com for the detailed counseling schedule. Important Notes: 1. Only objective type/multiple-choice questions will be asked in the Entrance Examination. 2. The basis for preparing the merit list will be the score in the Entrance Examination only. 3. There will 'NOT' be any Negative marking. 4. All candidates should bring the Admit Card with them at the time of Entrance Examination without Admit Card, the candidates will not be allowed to enter the Examination Hall. 5. Any candidate, who does not receive the Admit Card two days before the Entrance Examination, must contact the Chairman, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. In such case, the candidates must bring two recent passport size photographs duly attested with him/her to obtain duplicate Admit Card. 6. Roll Number/Registration Number and the Centre of Examination will be indicated on the Admit Card. 7. The candidate should reach the Examination Hall well before the time and should occupy their seat in the Examination Hall atleast half an hour before the exam. starts. 8. The candidate will be given a test booklet containing questions and the answersheet 15 minutes before the exam. starts. 9. During these 15 minutes, the candidate should read the instructions and fill all the required particulars in the test booklet. 10. All the candidates should bring their own pencils, blue and black ballpoint pens and erasers for making entries in the answer-sheet. These shall not be supplied by the University. 11. All the entries in the answer-sheet shall be made strictly according to the instructions given to the candidates. 12. Use of books, papers, slide rules, log tables, cellular phones, calculators, pagers etc. will not be allowed in the Examination Hall. 13. If any candidate is found guilty of breach of any rules mentioned in the prospectus or guilty of using unfair means, he/she will be liable to be punished by the competent authority. 14. All disputes to the conduct of examination and allotment of seats shall fall within the jurisdiction of Kurukshetra only. 15. The candidates will be allowed to appear in the Entrance Examination provisionally, subject to fulfilling the prescribed eligibility conditions/ criteria given in the prospectus. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. The candidates must read the prospectus carefully before filling the Admission Form. 2. In case any candidate is found to have supplied false information, certificate, documents etc. or is found to have withheld or concealed some information in his/her Application Form he/she shall be liable to be debarred from admission to the course. 3. If a candidate is admitted on the basis of the information given by him/her, which is found to be incorrect or false later on, his/her admission will be cancelled and all fees and other dues paid by him/her shall be forfeited. The University/Institute may take further action against the candidate and his/her guardian that considers suitable. 4. The Prospectus is for BIHBM. Course for the session 2008-09 only. It is published for general information & its contents are subject to change without prior notice. 5. All disputes to the conduct of examination and allotment of seats shall fall within the jurisdiction of Kurukshetra only. 6. Nothing contained in this Prospectus should be construed to convey sanction or cited as an authority for which University regulations alone are applicable. 7. All the rules and regulations for submission of migration certificate by the candidates who have passed the lower examination from other Boards will be applicable as per the University Rules. 8. Always quote your Registration No. and/or Roll No. for reference while making correspondence regarding admission to BIHBM. 9. The candidates shall have no right to claim admission to BIHBM merely due to their appearing in the Entrance Examination. 10. If the University Authorities are not satisfied with the character, past behaviour and antecedents of a candidate, they may refuse to admit him/her in the University/Institute. In order to ensure academic standards, discipline and peaceful atmosphere in the University/Institute, the Vice-Chancellor may cancel the admission of any student for a specified period. 11. There will be no re-evaluation/re-checking of Answer Sheet of the Entrance Examination and no request in this regard will be entertained. Students can deposit fee in cash or by Bank draft. One Bank draft of Rs. 48,000/- is to be drawn in favour of M/S MPDC, ITDC, New Delhi and another Bank draft of Rs. 12,000/-(Rs.6000/- for SC candidates of Haryana) shall be drawn in favour of Registrar, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. For paying fees in cash Rs. 48,000/- is to be deposited in the account of ITDC at State Bank of India, Kurukshetra University. Rs. 12,000/- (Rs.6000/- for SC candidates of Haryana) includes Rs. 1000/- as exam fees and Rs. 1100/- as Registration fee and Rs. 500/- as continuation fee for II, III & IV year in the account of Kurukshetra University at State Bank of India, Kurukshetra. The fees will have to be deposited ON THE SPOT at the time of counseling. There shall be no refund of fee for this course. However, additional fee will be charged for practical training on actual cost basis by ITDC during the course of study. HOW TO APPLY 1. No Original/Photostat Certificate/Document/Testimonial is to be attached with the Application Form. All the necessary Certificates/Documents/Testimonials will be required at the time of counseling. 2. Before filling the Application Form, the candidates should read the Prospectus thoroughly. 3. All the particulars in the Application Form must be written carefully and legibly by the candidate in his / her own handwriting in English. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 4. All the entries in the Application Form should be filled. No entries should be left unfilled. 5. The Application Form will consist of two sets of forms labeled as Form-A & Form-B, Admit Card in duplicate, address slips, acknowledgment card and two envelops. 6. Affix the latest copies of the duly attested passport size photographs on the Application Form at the places meant for it. 7. Two self addressed and duly stamped envelopes of Rs.5/- each should be enclosed with the Application Form. 8. Self addressed and duly stamped Acknowledgment Card should be enclosed with the Application Form. 9. Duly filled address slips must be enclosed with the Application Form. 10. The Application Form duly completed in all respects in candidate's own handwriting should reach the Chairman, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra - 136119 on or before 17.06.2008 (up to 5.00 p.m.). 11. It should either be delivered personally or sent under registered cover. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered. 12. The University takes no responsibility for any postal delay in the receipt or loss of application in transit. 13. If the last date for receipt of Admission Forms falls on a holiday or that day is declared holiday by the University, the next working day will be considered as the last date for the purpose. However, the timings will remain unchanged. 14. The candidates who are placed under Compartment/Re-appear in the qualifying examinations will not be allowed admission to the BIHBM Course in any case. INSTRUCTIONS FOR CURBING RAGGING Ragging is Antisocial: With fifty years of its existence, Kurukshetra University has earned recognition as one of the renowned centres of teaching and research in the country. Students will be required to work hard with their energies focused towards achieving their goal. All concerned may note the following please. • Ragging is Unsocial, Illegal and Punishable. • Ragging in any form at any place in the campus or outside, is strictly prohibited. • Any student found indulging in an act of ragging will meet strict disciplinary action leading to expulsion from the University. • Following will amount to the act of ragging: - to address seniors as ‘Sir’. - to perform mass drills. - to copy class notes for the seniors. - to serve various errands. - to do menial jobs for the seniors. - to ask/answer vulgar questions. - to look at pornographic pictures to ‘Shock the freshers out of their innocence. - to force to drink alcohol, scalding tea etc. - to force to do acts which can lead to physical injury/mental torture or death. - to force to do acts with sexual overtones, including homosexual acts. - to strip, kiss etc. - to do other obscenities. All the senior students are advised to guide and treat junior students affectionately. Junior students may contact their Chairpersons or other University functionaries like Proctor, Dean Students Welfare, Chief Warden, Wardens or Chief Security Officer for help and guidance. Appendix-A Instructions regarding Bonafide Residents of Haryana issued vide letter No.62/17/95-6 GSI dated 3rd October, 1996, No.62/32/2000-6GSI dated 23rd May, 2003 and No.62/27/2003-6GSI dated 29th July, 2003 by the Chief Secretary to Government, Haryana. Subject: Bonafide residents of Haryana - Guidelines regarding. I am directed to invite your attention to Haryana Govt. letters noted in the margin on the subject noted above vide which the instructions were issued regarding simplification of procedure for obtaining the certificate of Domicile for the purpose of admission to educational institution (including technical/medical institution). The matter has been reconsidered in the light of judgment delivered by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in the case of Dr. Pradeep Jain vs. Union of India and others reported as AIR 1984-SC-1421, wherein it has been held that instead of the word 'Domicile' the word 'Resident' be used in the instructions issued by the State Government and it has been decided to revise the Government instructions. Henceforth, the following categories of persons would be eligible for the grant of Resident Certificate:- i) Candidates, who have passed the examination qualifying there for selection in an institution from a school/college in Haryana. ii) Children / Wards (if parents are not living) / Dependents: - (a) of the regular employees of Haryana State posted in or outside Haryana State or working on deputation; (b) of the regular employees of the statutory bodies/corporations established by or under an act of the State of Haryana who are posted in Chandigarh or in Haryana or outside Haryana. Candidates seeking admission in educational institutions (including medical and technical institutions) located in Haryana, may not be required to produce Resident Certificate, if they have passed the examination from a school/college situated in Haryana. For this purpose, a certificate of the Principal/Headmaster from concerned institution where the children/wards studied last should be considered sufficient. The Principal/Headmaster of the institution shall be competent to issue such certificate, which should be sufficient. 4. If a candidate is admitted on the basis of claim that he belongs to the State of Haryana but at any subsequent time is discovered that his claim was false, the student shall be removed from the institution, all fees and other dues paid up to the date of such removal shall be confiscated.
