Free Education for Poor and Talented Students

Bharathiar University at Coimbatore has implemented free education for poor and talented students in the affiliated colleges and in the university departments from the last year. By involving its affiliated Colleges for the Academic Year 2008-2009 also free education will be offered. Students desirous to join various under-graduate courses can approach the affiliated Colleges for admission. The Colleges have been given 5% Extra Seat in each course towards the fee concession to poor students. The affiliated Colleges have already given their consent to admit students under `Free Education Scheme’.

The University will be implementing the scheme to ensure opportunities for the poor students being given for the various Post-graduate courses offered in the University Departments and students can approach the concerned Head of the Department for admission.

Merit cum economic status is the main criteria for the selection of the students. Preference will be given to the students those who are coming under the following categories:

1. Parental Status: Orphan, Destitute, Single Parent, Son or
daughter of divorcees, children supported by NGOs.

2. Social Status: Community, Rural/Urban.

3. Economics Status: Income of the parent(s), guardian,
property/assets of the family.

4. Academic Status: Marks in S.S.L.C., +2, Under-Graduate Degree programme and consistent school performance, extra curricular
activities.

Those who are interested to apply for the free seats can download the prescribed application form from below links and send the filled-in application on or before 18th July 2008 addressed to the concerned Principal of the affiliated College for admission in the College and the concerned Head of the Department for admission in the University Department.

Evidence for the educational qualifications, income of the family and claim preference category also to be sent along with the application.

Those who are already admitted under free seats category in any one of the affiliated colleges of Bharathiar University are not eligible to apply with the University.

A separate counseling will be conducted to select the students and the date of the counseling will be informed.
